September Resources
National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed each year from September 15th to October 15th. September 15th is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Celebrate by checking out our display of books that were written by or feature American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Also, explore our collection of digital resources related to Hispanic Heritage Month.
Civic Awareness Month
September marks Civic Awareness Month, a time to highlight the vital role of an informed and active citizenry. Civic awareness involves understanding the key issues that shape our communities and public life.
Check out our Civic Awareness collection of resources and stories to increase your own civic awareness.
Join the LAB (Library Advisory Board)!
Interest Meeting: Sept. 8 during lunch in the Media Center
The CHS LAB is a student-run club that helps make the CHS Library Media Center a welcoming and awesome place! Members of the LAB:
- Plan and design displays for the CHS Media Center (display windows, bookshelves, bulletin board)
- Give guidance on purchasing decisions
- Plan events for the Media Center (e.g. Book to Movie events, Trivia, author series, etc.)
- Design special programs (Blind Date with a Book, Poem in Your Pocket, etc.)
Interested in joining? Come to the interest meeting on Monday, September 8th during lunch in the Media Center!
Spotlight on Digital Citizenship: Family Media Agreement
This year, CHS students will participate in digital citizenship advisory lessons. These lessons will focus on the responsible use of technology to learn, curate, and participate in society. To find out more about digital citizenship and why it's important, explore the Common Sense Education website.
As we continue to build our digital citizenship skills and knowledge, consider setting expectations and rules around device use with Common Sense Media's Family Media Agreement.
