Hello Roadrunner Families!

I first want to thank all of you for your participation and generosity for Pink Week! It is always such a special week in Brighton that encompasses all the love and support that we provide as a community. It is always so special to go to the game and see our community come together for this very special night.

We had a great week at Spencer! It is hard to believe we are at the end of the month already! We have had some amazing fall weather and are getting into our school routines. It has been a great beginning of the school year and we are so happy to be partnering with all our families on our students' success.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Boyd

Hello Roadrunners!

Let's get connected! If you would like to be part of our school's directory please fill out the link HERE! Once you have filled it out, you will be given access to view other students' information in the directory. This is an online directory, but it is not public. The directory is restricted to only those who fill it out. Being part of our school directory is a great way to get contact information for all of those great new friends your student is making here at Spencer! There is an option to include your email, phone number, or both. Thank you for being part of our Roadrunner family!

School Photos Have Arrived

I delivered the Lifetouch photographs to your child's teacher last week so they will be coming home soon if they haven't already. If your student was absent on Picture Day or you are not happy with how they turned out, Picture Retake Day information follows...

Retake Day Reminders

  • New students or students who were absent on picture day should come to the camera on Retake Day.
  • Students who would like a retake must bring their original portrait packet to the camera and return it to the photographer.
  • The photographers start right away in the morning and leave when finished, so be mindful of that when scheduling appointments

Yearbook Ordering Tips

Last year was the first year that I have been the yearbook coordinator that we ran out of yearbooks to sell and some students were unable to receive one. So here are some helpful tips...

1) Order your yearbook right away and check that off the list :)

2) Save the confirmation email that you receive from Lifetouch

3) Feel free to email me towards the end of the school to verify that your students name is on the Lifetouch Order List. My email address is: berryl@brightonk12.com

4) This order form will remain in the Scoop each week until the order deadline

What an AMAZING PINK WEEK!! Thank you to our amazing Spencer families for coming together as a community and supporting such a great cause! With your donations, we were able to raise a total of $6554.84 for Trinity Cancer Center in Brighton!! We received $5187.84 in coins, made $574 at the Bake Sale and sold $793 in suckers! Congratulations to Mrs. Ball‘s Fourth Grade Class for winning 1st Place in Coin Wars with a five day total of $742.11! They have their choice of a pizza, cider and donuts or a popsicle party! None of this would be possible without our amazing volunteers! We spent several hours everyday counting and rolling coins. A huge shout out goes to our Pink Week chair, Katelyn Bill. Katie spearheaded Pink Week and did a phenomenal job! We’d also like to say Thank You to our PTO Volunteers who helped with Coin Wars, Sucker Sales, Family Picnic and the Bake Sale. We’re truly grateful for your help!

CURRENT EVENTS

ROADRUNNER RUN

Roadrunner Run is Friday, October 9, from 2-3:45 PM. T-shirts will be distributed to teachers on October 7 and 8. This year is going to be a Color Run! The color is organic, nontoxic, washable, made of cornstarch with food grade dyes and made in the USA. We also have a No Color, Same Fun Lane for students who don’t want color or have sensitivities. We’re asking parents to notify their teacher if they don’t want their student to be involved in the color portion of the run. Students will wear their Roadrunner shirts for the run, the color is washable, but we advise against wearing shoes that are not washable, as they could stain.

The PTO will be providing sunglasses for every student to wear during the run. Bandanas or face masks are welcome to protect students from breathing in the color powder. We’re doing individual incentives for students this year along with school wide incentives. We’re so excited to announce our individual incentives! We have a prize box with candy, local freebie coupons, and small squishies!

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT INCENTIVES:

Students registered on Fundhub get to pick a prize from the prize box.

Students who raise $50+ get to pick a prize from the prize box.

Students who raise $150+ get a MYSTERY DUMPLING!!!

Students who raise $300+ get to have lunch with Principal Boyd!!

Highest earning class wins their choice of a pizza party or donut and cider party!

Teacher of the highest earning class wins a $50 gift card of their choice!

SCHOOL WIDE INCENTIVES:

$2500 Hat/wacky hair day

$5000 Pajama day

$10,000 Lunch seat swap

$15,000 Playground dance party during lunch

$19,000 Officer Mike morning surprise (shh)

$22,000 Dress Principal Boyd in a crazy costume for a day

PUSH GOAL: $25,000 Kona Ice truck coming to the school

RUN VOLUNTEERS:

Many volunteers are needed to make our run a fun success for our students. Please take a moment and review the sign up and join in on the fun! This is our first color run and we want it to be the most fun it can be! To make volunteer check in run smooth, please have your background check already on file. A link for that can be found here.

We’re also looking for volunteers on Monday, October 5 at 4:15 PM in the Gym to help make banners, yard signs and posters for Roadrunner Run.

If your child will be taking medication during the school day, either prescription or over the counter, the Medication Authorization Form must be on file in the office. The form can be accessed by clicking the button below. It MUST be filled out completely and signed by BOTH the physician and the parent and brought in along with the medication. For safety reasons, students are never allowed to carry medications. They must be brought to school by a parent/guardian in its original container.

Signing Students In/Out Signing Students In/Out

We are continuing our efforts to maximize security and minimize traffic in our lobby where students frequently pass through at any given time during the course of a school day, and will again use the QR code system for parents/guardians when either 1) signing in your student tardy or 2) picking up your student early. The QR codes will be affixed outside Door #1 (the main entrance door) and you will simply use the camera on your phone to scan the QR codes (NOTE: one code is for signing IN a student and one code is for signing OUT a student). After you scan the code, it will direct you to either the Student Sign In or Sign Out Google Form. The safety officer and/or office will then locate your student and send them out to you where you will show your ID. To expedite this process, it will be helpful to you to send in a note with your student in the morning to give to the teacher if you will be picking up your student early.

Here are the QR Links. You can always save these to your phone for quick reference.

If you are planning to volunteer in classrooms or on field trips this year, you must fill out a background check. This needs to be done each year and if you have students in other buildings around the district, you only have to fill out the form one time and indicate which buildings you would like to volunteer in.

You can access the form by clicking HERE.

Forgotten Items?

You will find the Drop Off Cabinet (pictured below) outside near the main entrance to the school. Here you will put those forgotten items that your student may need. Simply fill out the small slip of paper with the student's name and teacher, affix it to the item, and a staff member will deliver it to your student.

Just In Case Clothes Just In Case Clothes

Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
