Busy Few Weeks

Wow! It's that time again where the end of the year is so close! It's been a very busy few weeks for teachers and families with testing, traveling, and prepping for the end of the year. All of the teachers enjoyed getting to meet students at their sites and so many students enjoyed meeting fellow Herons. We only have EOCs, PASS, and DRA left for this year. We can do it!

Don't forget to thank your teachers for Teacher Appreciation week. You can send them a Kmail or thank them next week during testing.

Learning Labs will reopen May 17th for additional support as we wind up the year. Don't forget that these are a great option for those needing additional help as well as to make connections with Herons that live around you before summer starts.

Helpful Tips for Herons Helpful Tips for Herons

Testing can be stressful for anyone. Students in a virtual setting sometimes have more of a challenge due to traveling to an unfamiliar location. We know that testing is a change for everyone’s schedule and can cause some worry for our students and learning coaches. It is very important that both learning coaches and students feel comfortable and prepared for testing. Check out the following tips to help make that happen.

Tips for Testing Days

  • Go to bed early
  • Wake up early enough to avoid rushing the day of the test.
  • Avoid being late by preparing the night before
  • Breakfast is like the gas in your car. You need it to run well. Make it a healthy choice that is full of lasting energy.
  • Encourage your student to do their best each day.
  • Use process of elimination
  • Check Answers when possible
  • Relax and do your best
  • Take your time
  • Be POSITIVE!! You CAN do this!!

Please remember that we are here to help. You have an entire flock of Herons behind you to support your family in a successful testing season.

Calculator Rules- 6-8th grade (Science) and EOC Students

Most important!!!!!Be sure you know how to use your calculator. It Isn't helpful to bring a "fancy" calculator to testing if you don't know how to use it. There is a calculator built into the test, so if you don't have a calculator that you are used to using, then you can use the calculator built into the test.

If you have a calculator that you are used to using, please bring it with you to testing. Any scientific calculator is permitted. It must lie flat on the table, no raised screens. Click here to see images of some acceptable and not acceptable calculators for testing.

If there are any questions, please contact your math teacher.

Calculators with the following features are prohibited:

  • calculators with built-in computer algebra systems (CAS), including:

    • Texas Instruments: all model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92 and the TI-Nspire CAS [Note: The TI-Nspire (non-CAS) is permitted.]

    • Hewlett-Packard: HP 48GII and all model numbers that begin with HP 40G, HP 49G, or HP 50G

    • Casio: Algebra fx 2.0, ClassPad 300 and ClassPad 330, and all model numbers that begin with CFX-9970G

  • handheld, tablet, or laptop computers (unless being used for online testing), including PDAs

  • calculators with wireless capability, such as Bluetooth or an infrared data port

  • electronic writing pads or pen-input devices

  • calculators built into cell phones or any other electronic communication devices

  • calculators with a typewriter keypad (letter keys in QWERTY format)

  • calculators that “talk” or otherwise make noise, such as the AudioCalc
