WSL FOURTH GRADERS VISITED THE MABEE FARM HISTORICAL SITE

West Sand Lake 4th graders from Mrs. Nizinkirck's, Mrs. Rakus's, Mrs. Strano's, and Mrs. Dergosits's homerooms enjoyed a beautiful field trip to the Mabee Farm Historical Site. The Mabee Family was a Dutch family who settled along the shores of the Mohawk River in 1705. Students were immersed in Colonial Living as they rotated through five stations. They learned how to churn butter, and even got to taste the butter once it was ready. They took a tour of the Mabee Family house and the blacksmith's building. Students met many friendly goats and sheep, and they learned how the wool was used to make clothing for the Mabee Family. Finally, students got to participate in a barn building exercise where they learned how the Dutch family built the large barn on the property. Students really enjoyed learning about how people lived back in these times. This field trip really brought to life the Social Studies curriculum that the fourth graders learned in the classroom.
