Walker ElementaryParent Newsletter for August 30 - September 3, 2021

Dear Walker Families,

Welcome back to school Wildcats! Parents, I want you to know how important it is to talk to your child about school and give them a little one-on-one time when you see them in the afternoon. Making connections between school and home is so important for your child’s social and emotional health. Please try to limit screen time during the week. The American Pediatric Association suggests between 18 months to 24 months screen time should be limited to watching educational programming with a caregiver. For children 2-5, limit non-educational screen time to about 1 hour per weekday and 3 hours on the weekend days. For ages 6 and older, encourage healthy habits and limit activities that include screens. Here are some ideas of conversation starters to help fuel the engagement with your child.

  1. Tell me about the best part of your day.

  2. What was the hardest thing you had to do today?

  3. Did any of your classmates do anything funny?

  4. Tell me about what you read in class.

  5. Who did you play with today? What did you play?

  6. Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard?

  7. What's the biggest difference between this year and last year?

  8. What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?

  9. Who did you sit with at lunch?

  10. Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?

I hope these tips help you learn more about your child’s day to increase that connection that our kids so desperately need. It doesn’t take long, but one little moment can truly make a difference. https://www.scholastic.com/parents/school-success/10-questions-to-ask-your-child-about-his-day-school.html

¿A qué jugaste?
