WE ARE SO THANKFUL!
We start this holiday season with gratitude.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community, we were able to support 90 families this Thanksgiving. Because of your food and monetary donations, each family received a turkey, a full food package, and additional support through our pantry—ensuring that their holiday table was full.
To every community member who donated: thank you for showing what compassion looks like in action. And to our incredible volunteers, your time, energy, and heart made this effort possible. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to serving others.
Winter Assessments: What Families Need to Know
Students participate in a variety of academic assessments that help us understand their strengths, areas for growth, and progress over time. Two of our winter assessments are summarized in our Winter Assessment Letter for Families. Specific assessment dates will be communicated directly by your child’s school principal.

Key to 73 Hawthorn Education Foundation Initiatives
Race to Restock Winners: Aspen Elementary! 🎉
Thank you, Hawthorn community! With need at an all-time high, your incredible generosity during the Race to Restock made a powerful impact. We tracked both monetary donations and food bin contributions, with several schools filling their bins to 100% and beyond. After combining totals, and using monetary donations as the tie-breaker, Aspen Elementary earned first place in this friendly districtwide competition.
Your donations not only helped restock the Hawthorn Food Pantry, but also supported the Key to 73 Foundation Holiday Drive, which is serving an unprecedented 260+ Hawthorn students and their families this season.
Thank you for making a meaningful difference!

Hearing and Vision Screening
During October and November, vision and hearing screenings will be conducted during school hours:
Vision Screening: State-required screenings are for preschool, kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th graders, students with Individualized Education Plans, and new students to the District. School vision screenings aren't a replacement for full eye exams by a professional. If your child has had an eye exam within the past year and we have the report on file, they can skip the screening. Otherwise, it's required for students in the mandated groups. If your child wears prescription glasses, please make sure they are wearing them to school.
Hearing Screening: All students in preschool, kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, grade 3, students with Individualized Education Plans, and new students to the District will be screened annually for hearing.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your school nurse.
