Koch's Corner
Dear Future Star Families,
The fall season has arrived! I hope you’ve enjoyed the transition over the past few weeks. While the warm weather has lingered, autumn is quickly approaching, bringing a fresh new energy to our school year.
During this first month and a half, our teachers and students have focused on building strong classroom communities. Time has been dedicated to getting to know one another, establishing routines, and practicing positive behaviors that set the foundation for success. Teachers are intentional about teaching, modeling, practicing, reinforcing, and acknowledging the expectations for both learning and behavior.
At Leeds, along with the House Structure, we use a school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) system, centered on our STAR expectations.
Leeds Future Stars:
- Show Respect
- Try Our Best
- Have an Awesome Attitude
- Are Responsible and Safe
Consistency in these expectations helps students feel confident and supported in their learning. When staff see students meeting these expectations, they are acknowledged with a STAR Card, celebrating the positive choices they make each day.
Thanks to our students, staff, and families, we are off to a fantastic start this school year. Keep shining, Future Stars!
Warmly,
Ron Koch
Principal | Leeds Elementary School
Things to Know
Bullying and Harassment Free District
The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.
If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
Fall Conferences - No School Days
Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 30. There will be no school for students on Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31. Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education.
Advocate for Our Schools
Parent volunteers are needed to join the District’s Grassroots Advocacy Committee. As a volunteer, you will receive email updates about important legislative events that could impact public education and be asked to contact our legislators to advocate for our schools. Tips are provided to help volunteers connect with legislators. Volunteer today and let your voice be heard! Contact Communications@live.siouxcityschools.com to volunteer.
