Jim Machinchick Talks About Sharks! Jim Machinchick Talks About Sharks!

This past Tuesday (or you can say this week), our fourth-grade students were fortunate to experience an engaging presentation from experienced master diver and shark photographer Jim Machinchick, whose incredible photography has been featured in the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week advertising.

Jim shared his firsthand experiences diving with sharks, his knowledge of these fascinating animals, and the important role sharks play in maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem. He also helped students understand why protecting sharks is so important. As a coastal community, it is especially meaningful for our students to develop an understanding of the ocean environment around us and the interconnected relationships that help maintain its delicate balance.

The presentation was an exciting and meaningful way to kick off our upcoming Shark Tracking Unit. Students will build on what they learned from Jim as they explore shark behavior, migration patterns, habitats, and the important role these incredible animals play in our oceans.

To recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, Ms. Lindsay from Little Groove joined our Kindergarten World Language Health class for a fun and joyful Spanish music and movement experience! Students sang along to songs in Spanish, learned new Spanish vocabulary, and moved and danced together in the gym.

We practiced Spanish words for directions such as up, down, and side to side, as well as numbers, colors, animals, and greetings. It was a wonderful opportunity for our kindergarteners to incorporate Spanish language into an active and engaging Health class experience. ¡Excelente!

LUNCH WITH VISITORS LUNCH WITH VISITORS

It is that time of year when we start to invite family members to lunch at RES. This is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this! Please know that this opportunity is very unique to RES and we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines out of respect for our staff and safety protocols.

  • Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
  • one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) as we really do get quite tight at certain lunches.
  • Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child but not other students.
  • We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
  • Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria BEFORE we line up all the children.
  • Days for family visits are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Lunch times are:
  • Kindergarten-11:45-12:10

    First Grade-12:15-12:40

    Second Grade-12:15-12:40

    Third Grade- 11:15-11:40

    Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
