Monthly Newsletter: Exciting Events and Updates!
Dear Parents and Families,
We have a lot of exciting events and important updates to share with you for the month of October! Please take note of the dates and information below to help you stay informed and involved.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: We look forward to meeting with you during our upcoming conferences. This is a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress and address any questions or concerns.
- October 17: 3:40 PM – 5:40 PM (Several Spanish interpreters available)
- October 22: 3:40 PM – 6:00 PM
- October 24: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Limited Spanish interpreters available)
Report Cards: Report cards will be sent home on November 7th. Please note that report cards will look a bit different this year. We are introducing a new grading scale to better reflect student progress and achievement:
- 4 - Highly Proficient: Student demonstrates a deep understanding and independent achievement that exceeds grade-level standards.
- 3 - Proficient: Student meets grade-level standards independently.
- 2 - Approaching Proficiency: Student shows progress but may need additional support to consistently meet grade-level expectations.
- 1 - Not Yet Proficient: Student requires more time, practice, and support to meet grade-level standards.
Fall Fun Week (October 28 – November 1): We are excited to celebrate fall with a series of fun dress-up days! More information will be sent home closer to the date about the specific themes for each day. We will also have a classroom fall party on October 31. This will be a fun time for students to enjoy festive activities in their classrooms.
Fall Festival: Join us for our Fall Festival on October 30th from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. We’ll have trunk-or-treat, fall-themed games, and plenty of fun for the whole family! All activities are free, and we encourage everyone to come and enjoy the evening. Please note that students must be accompanied by an adult.
Benchmark Curriculum: As we continue with the new Benchmark Curriculum, please keep in mind that concepts are continually being taught throughout the year. Mastery of skills isn’t expected until the end of the year, so it's okay if your child is still developing their understanding at this point.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Fall parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 and Thursday, October 24.
**Due to conferences, there will not be school on Thursday, October 24 or Friday, October 25.
A message from Loess Hills PTO
Welcome to a new school year! We are looking for some parent volunteers to help out in the school. Our first opportunity is The Fall Fest, which we partner with Elevate Church. This event will run on Oct. 30 from 5-6 pm. We are forming a committee to carry out our portion of this event. While Elevate church will be doing a Trunk or Treat, more trunks are welcome. As a PTO, we will be doing carnival style games, concession stand and providing a photo prop setup. Anyone interested in being on this committee as planning or running, please reach out to us!
Stop by and chat with us at conferences about how you can help out! Time commitments are flexible to your needs and what you will excel in. We are also looking to fill positions on our PTO board. We are also asking, if you or someone you know that would like to be added to the vote for any position, to contact us, or add names to our list at conferences. Anyone in attendance at our October meeting on Oct. 28 at 5 PM will be voting for Vice President (will step into president position for the 25-26 school year), Treasurer, and Secretary. Feel free to reach out with any questions on these positions.

The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.
Bullying and harassment are defined as any electronic, written, verbal, or physical act or conduct toward a student which is based on any actual or perceived trait or characteristic of the student and which creates an objectively hostile school environment that meets one or more of the following conditions:
- Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or property.
- Has a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s academic performance.
- Has the effect of substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school.
If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
