Lockdown Drill Practice: Tuesday Afternoon

On Tuesday, EMS will practice a Lockdown Drill.

We practice Lockdown Drills so we are prepared for an instance in which a threat is inside the building.

During the drill, students and staff follow safety procedures which are cascaded to the Office Team, Administration, and the District Office.

If you have any questions, please contact hargraveb@estacada.k12.or.us.

Choir Classes Collaborate with Professional Composer

The choirs at EMS had the great pleasure of working with world renowned Portland composer Joan Szymko (see her bio here: https://www.joanszymko.com/about ) on Tuesday last week.

The choirs are performing a two of her pieces (“Come Pretty Love”, 7th grade choir; “It Takes a Village” all choirs) on our upcoming concert on Thursday, March 17. In written responses to the composer after her visit, students commented on their appreciation for being able to work with the composer of a piece they are working on, and how much it meant to them. We can’t wait to share these pieces with the community!

Event Information

EMS Music Concert

Our auditorium will open at 6:30pm. Musicians are to be in the band and choir rooms by 6:30pm. Families are to find a seat in the auditorium and students are to report to classrooms S1 and S2. All students and families are expected to stay for the entirety of the performance. We expect students to stay even when finished performing to be present and to provide support for their classmates in other music classes. Any students who are not in music classes and who are unaccompanied by a parent will not be permitted to enter. Additional reminders will be sent out in the coming weeks.

EMS musicians will be presenting music from a wide array of genres, including American, Shaker, and Irish Folk Songs, Traditional spirituals, Classical and Romantic period repertoire, a brand new composition for beginning band by Richard Standridge who conducted the Middle School All State Band in January, and more.

Adjustments to Safety Protocols

On March 2nd, the Oregon Department of Education released new Ready School Safe Learner (RSSL) guidance following the Governor’s announcement of the end of the state’s mask mandate at the end of the day on March 11th. The Estacada School District has followed RSSL guidance consistently since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Estacada School District has long advocated for local control, and these new guidelines restore decision-making powers to the district and county levels. Our district will also continue to follow RSSL guidance, which means that effective March 12th, face masks will be optional for all students and staff in the Estacada School District, including while on the bus, regardless of vaccination status.

The Estacada School District will continue to strongly recommend face masks as a precautionary measure for students and staff, especially for those at high risk of contracting COVID-19, as well as during times when COVID-19 cases are at a high level in the community. Ultimately, the decision will rest with families and individuals.

The district will not tolerate any unkind or discriminatory behavior based on the decisions that people make regarding their individual health. Our leaders will work to reinforce an environment of respect and inclusion for all members of our district, regardless of their personal health decisions.

Beginning March 12th, students and staff will also no longer need to quarantine when exposed to COVID-19, but individuals exposed to COVID-19 will still receive informational notification from the district. Those that have tested positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate at home for five days and until they are 24 hours fever free (whichever comes later).

The district will continue to have safety measures in place to protect the health of the children and adults in our schools. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and rapid tests will be available to those that choose to utilize these tools. Quality ventilation and airflow will also continue to be maintained. The district will also continue to deep clean and sanitize high touch areas at a higher frequency.
