Vision: At Colonel Richardson Middle School (CRMS) we create a safe, supportive environment where students achieve academic success, develop life skills, and build confidence for the future!
Policy Refresher!
Dear CRMS Families,
It's getting warmer. We're moving closer to the end of the school year and that means, sometimes we can all get a little relaxed around expectations. At Colonel Richardson Middle School, we are committed to keeping a safe, respectful, and equitable learning environment for every student. To help maintain this environment, Caroline County Public Schools (CCPS) has clear policies regarding dress code, cell phone use, and overall student conduct. These policies are based on structured expectations, applied consistently to all students in an effort to maintain dignity and to support students' understanding of structure as it relates to their future endeavors in college and careers.
Dress Code: Promoting Respect and Focus
The current CCPS Student Dress Code Policy focuses on ensuring that students' bodies are appropriately covered to minimize distractions and maintain a respectful learning environment. Students must wear clothing that covers the chest, torso, midriff, and bottom areas fully, and all undergarments must be covered. Head coverings are not permitted inside school buildings unless approved for religious or medical reasons. These expectations are applied to all students equally and are designed to keep the focus on learning rather than attire.
You can view the current dress code here: CCPS Student Dress Code Policy. (note--this is currently being revised with a request for input. We know some things are out of date and we work with students, with some of the elements in the policy such as hems, and leggings).
Yondr Pouches: Supporting an Engaged, Drama-Free School Day
To limit distractions from cell phones during instructional time, CCPS uses Yondr pouches in middle schools. Upon arrival, students place their phones in a locked pouch, where they remain secured for the school day. This system helps students stay present and engaged in their learning and social experiences at school.
Learn more about the Yondr policy here: CCPS Cell Phone Pouch Information.
Code of Student Conduct: Building a Safe School Climate
The CCPS Code of Student Conduct outlines clear expectations for behavior, attendance, and respect toward others. It ensures consistent responses to misbehavior, promoting fairness and supporting a positive school climate for all students. Expectations apply equally to all students and provide a structured framework for safety and success.
You can review the Code of Student Conduct here: CCPS Code of Student Conduct.
Your Voice Matters
Family feedback plays an important role in reviewing and updating school policies. When opportunities arise, such as public comment periods or policy reviews, we encourage you to share your thoughts. CCPS Board of Education meetings are open to the public, and you can find more information here: CCPS Board of Education Information.
By working together, we help ensure that CRMS remains a welcoming, structured, and academically focused community for all students.
Take Care. Be Well.
