The Sheiko Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: October 17, 2025
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Happy Friday, Sheiko Families!
This week’s Big Announcement is that M-STEP scores are coming home! Please check your child’s folder for their report. Here’s a helpful link on how to read and understand the report: M-STEP Family Guide.
Did you know there is a strong correlation between being in the 60th percentile and being proficient on the M-STEP? One of the best ways to help your child grow as a reader is to read together for 20–30 minutes each day. You can also support math growth by practicing math facts at home. Every student has access to IXL for both reading and math, which can be used at home for extra practice—be sure to ask your child about it!
Did you hear about the teachers participating in the Inflatable Race? Be sure to ask your child all about it! This fun event is just one of the many PTO-sponsored activities that bring our staff, families, and students together.
We’re also in the middle of our Tardy Contest! Each grade level has classes competing to see who can have the fewest tardies—and some classes already have zero tardies for the entire month of October! Way to go! Arriving on time helps students start their day successfully: they have time to unpack, connect with friends, grab a free breakfast, and be ready for the first instruction of the day. Please make sure your child enters the building by 8:18 a.m. so they don’t miss out—instruction begins promptly at 8:20 a.m.
Finally, our Costume Parade is almost here! Students are welcome to bring costumes to school on Thursday, October 31. Please remember that costumes must be school-appropriate—no real or look-alike weapons, masks, blood, guts, or gore. The parade will begin at 1:45 p.m. Families are welcome to join us in the gym to watch. If you plan to visit classrooms, you must have an approved iChat. It takes about 48 hours to process, so please turn in your form and a copy of your license by October 24 to be cleared in time for the festivities.
Have a wonderful weekend!

🎃 SHEIKO PTO HALLOWEEN FUN 🎃
NEW BUILDING UPDATE
Last week, Our steel contractor, Men of Steel, held a brief topping out ceremony at Sheiko. This 1,000-year-old Scandinavian tradition marks the completion of the structural framework and celebrates the teamwork and craftsmanship of the ironworkers. It’s also a positive milestone for the future of the building and its occupants.
During the ceremony, the final beam was signed by all attendees and hoisted into place in the southeast corner of the new preschool. Kathy Sheiko and I signed right by each other, which was quite the honor because she was my principal for my first 16 years of teaching! She continues to be my mentor, role-model, friend, and has become family. We are so excited about the progress of our new building!
The students at Sheiko Elementary had a poster design contest in the iCenter with tips to take care of books! Take a peak at the winning designs!

We always welcome parents/guardians to drop off lunch for their student. However, we will not accept food deliveries for students from vendors. This is a safety issue. If food is delivered from a vendor, your student can pick it up from the office at the end of the school day.
Thank you.
