Popsicles with the Principals & Dean

Dear Maple Lane Families,

We hope you’re having a wonderful summer! Before the school year officially kicks off, we’d love to catch up with you. Feel free to stop by for a quick hello or stay and mingle for a bit.

Please join us for Popsicles with the Principals & Dean—a casual, drop-in event right in the school cafeteria! It’s a great chance for students to enjoy a cool treat, for parents to connect, and for everyone to chat with our administrative and office teams before day one.

  • When: Tuesday, August 4th

  • Time: 4:00-5:00pm

  • Where: Maple Lane Cafeteria

Also, please take a moment to look over our Welcome Back letter below for important details about the upcoming year. We can’t wait to see your bright smiles!

Kindly,

Family Welcome Back Letter

July 29, 2026

Dear Maple Lane Families,

On behalf of the staff at Maple Lane Elementary School, I am excited to welcome you to the 2026-2027 school year! We have been busy preparing to welcome our fabulous Maple Owls back to school. Summer is our time to deep-clean the building, upgrade security measures, plan curriculum updates, schedule parent engagement events, and refresh ourselves to welcome our community back.

As I begin my first year as Principal at Maple Lane, it is clear that the partnership between school and home is what makes all of the difference for our Owls. With your partnership, I am confident we will support each student in achieving their highest potential. As partners, we share the responsibility for each child’s success and promise to do our best! This school year, our students will continue to learn and grow with the support of their fabulous teachers, along with the following curricula: Bookworms for ELA (K-5), CKLA for reading (K-2), Kid Writing (K-2), I ready Writing (3-5), Zearn and Eureka 2 for Math (K-5), Next Generation Science Kits, and engaging Social Studies units.

Maple Lane has several exciting staffing adjustments for the upcoming school year, so please welcome our new Owls to the nest and cheer on those who are changing roles or teams. I, Dana Jackson, am your new building Principal. Katie Dooley is joining us as our new Bridges teacher. Shelby Wilson is joining us as our new Music teacher, and Mary Ferm will now be our 2nd-grade classroom teacher. There’s a bit more to come, so stay tuned. As enrollment adjusts this summer, we will continue to shift staffing to meet the needs of our students.

Save the dates for the following events:

New Family Orientation: Tuesday, August 18th at 5:00-6:00 pm

Sneak-a-Peek Night- Monday, August 24th at 5:00-6:30 pm

Open House Night- Monday, September 14th at 6:00-7:30 pm

First Day of School for 1st-5th grades: Wednesday, August 26th

Kindergarten Orientation: Wednesday, August 26th

Kindergarteners will officially start their first full day of school on Thursday, August 27th

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please remember that school begins at 8:55am. We open our doors to allow children to enter the building at 8:40am. Staff are stationed throughout the building to guide students to their classrooms and to monitor students as they eat breakfast in the cafeteria. There is one car line in front of the school. If your child is a bus rider, you will receive information through our Infinite Campus parent portal from our Transportation Department about times and locations of pickup and drop-off. At the end of the day, dismissal begins at 3:35 pm: walkers dismiss first from the side of the school (for arrival as well), car riders from the front door, and buses from the gym door. Please be patient as our students and staff get accustomed to the procedures. If you need to pick up your child for an early dismissal, please park and come into the building before 2:45pm, when possible. This will help keep our parking lot safe for students during dismissal.

As always, we are here to assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact our main office at 302-792-3906 or email me at dana.jackson@bsd.k12.de.us. Enjoy the remainder of the summer. We will see you soon!

Kindly,

Dana Jackson, Principal
