Event Details

Where: Home and School

  • Students may have some in-class reading sessions, but most reading will be logged at home.

When: 1/22/24-2/2/24

  • Reading minutes will be logged from Monday Jan. 22nd through Friday Feb. 2nd.
  • Students aim to read (or be read to for younger students) for at least 20 minutes per day.
  • Students can start collecting donations immediately on the Art Rutkin Read-a-thon Website.

What: A School-wide Read-a-Thon!

  • Students will collect flat donations or pledges to help encourage them to read during the event. This helps them meet their reading goals and encourages a love of reading!
  • Funds raised will be used to help pay for things like: School Events, Field Trips, Extra Programming, and Classroom or Curriculum Support. If we meet our School-Wide Goal of $2,500 we will be able to fund 2 field trips for every Art Rutkin student!

Who: Everyone!

  • Students Kindergarten through 5th Grade are encouraged to participate. Younger students may be read to and have parents manage minute and donation tracking. Older students should read on their own and track their own minutes as appropriate.

How it Works:

Online Format:

1. Create a Donation Page.

Parents must add their student to the Art Rutkin Read-a-thon by clicking the following "Add Me" link. Just provide: student first name, last initial, grade level, and a parent email and you're set.

2. Customize and Share.

After set up, parents will receive an email with 2 links.

  • The first link is to share your student's donation page (on social media, text, email, websites, etc). Sharing this page is how you will start gaining donations, donors cannot search for your student's page. Donors may choose between flat donations or "Per Minute Reading" pledges.
  • The second link is to customize your student's donation page (add a photo or personal message), as well as track their reading minutes once the Read-a-thon begins. Customization and Reading Tracking are optional.

Paper Format:
On Thursday 1/11/24 parents will receive a paper Read-a-thon packets in their student's Friday Folder (No School Friday 1/12). These packets will include paper copy Reading Logs and Pledge Logs to track student reading and cash or check donations.
  • Families will be responsible for filling out their own reading and donation logs, collecting any cash or check pledges/donations, and returning them to the PSO by the end of the Read-a-thon.

Track Reading Minutes

Use the customization link and click the "Track" tab on your participant page. You may add minutes daily, weekly, or all at once at the end of the event. Teachers can also add minutes to your student's tracker for any in-class reading sessions.
If preferred, you may use the website for donations only and turn in the paper Reading Log at the end of the event.
