Bus Behavior and Expectations

Maintaining a safe and respectful environment on the school bus is a shared responsibility between the school, students, and parents. All students have participated in learning about Bus Behavior Expectations during Advisory through a Whippur Way Lesson. To help ensure a smooth commute for everyone, please take time to talk with your child about safe bus behavior and the importance of driver safety focus.

The bus is an extension of the school day. Consequences will apply if a student cannot demonstrate they can successfully follow expectations. The following could be interventions: parent meetings, seat changes, removal from bus, suspensions, etc

Student Expectations:

Bus Stop: Students need to utilize their assigned bus stops. Students are not permitted to stand at unassigned stops in the morning or to get off on unassigned stops when arriving home in the afternoon.

Follow Directions: Listen to and promptly follow all instructions from the bus driver and monitors.

Stay Seated: Remain seated in your designated seat, facing forward, for the duration of the trip. Do not stand up or switch seats while the vehicle is in motion.

Maintain Quiet Voices: Use indoor/conversational volume to avoid distracting the driver. Portable speakers are not permitted on the bus.

Keep Space Clear: Keep hands, feet, and personal belongings inside the windows and out of the center aisle.

Show Respect: Treat fellow passengers with kindness; physical roughhousing, bullying, physical contact or inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

No Food or Drink: Eating or drinking on the bus is prohibited for safety and cleanliness.

No School

No School Monday, October 12th.

We will see everyone back on Tuesday, October 13th to start Quarter 2! The start of the Quarter means a fresh academic start, new lunch room seating, a change in some schedules including Exploratory classes, ALT, ELT, etc.

A Message From Student Services

It’s the start of a new quarter! This weekend encourage your student to take a few minutes to:

Clean out their backpack – Toss old trash, broken pencils, and papers that are no longer needed.

Sort through papers – Keep important notes and materials that may be useful later, and recycle anything that is no longer needed.

Organize folders and binders – Make sure papers are in the correct place and folders aren't overflowing.

Clean out the locker – Remove old papers, food, wrappers, and items from the previous quarter.

Restock supplies – Check for pencils, pens, notebooks, folders, and other materials needed for the new quarter.

Start fresh with a planner or calendar – Record important dates, assignments, projects, and upcoming tests.

PBIS

October is bullying prevention month. This week our Whippur Way Lesson focused on being respectful and kind to others. Students can demonstrate respect and kindness by being a leader and role model by following school expectations and taking accountability for their actions.

Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building community through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention.
