The Braintree Buzz
Principal's Update
Welcome to 2023! I hope your winter vacations were safe and restful. Students transitioned back to school this week, and we have focused on reteaching academic and behavior expectations. We are also so excited to welcome back Ms. Emma from medical leave!
Students in grades 3-6 are all working on nonfiction reading and writing. Third graders about preparing for a Socratic Seminar to discuss the question, "Why are oceans important?" after reading numerous texts about the ocean and oceanic explorers. I learned about peregrine falcons this week when I visited Ms. J's class. Fourth and fifth graders are working on developing research papers from multiple sources. Did you know 99% of a peregrine falcon's diet is other birds?

Student Presentation
Sixth graders Kiara and Jenny have been working with Ms. Gershon on nonfiction reading. After learning about maintaining a healthy body through good food and movement, they presented their research to Mrs. Richards' first and second grade class. Students learned about food groups, exercise, and the importance of family dinners whenever possible.
The Trout Are Here!
An annual favorite tradition at Braintree has begun again. Students will care for trout eggs until they are ready to release in the wild. They maintained the tank well enough for eggs to be delivered this week and will continue to monitor water quality while observing the development of the fish.
