Reading Challenge Update: Beanstack Is Here!
Dear College Park Families,
As part of our ongoing goal to increase reading outcomes for every student, we’re excited to share that our school — with support from the City of College Park — is taking reading to the next level!
Every student should be tracking their reading each night, both at school and at home. Depending on their grade level, students will log their reading in Beanstack or on their reading challenge document.
🌟 What’s New
We’re now using Beanstack, a fun and easy app where students can track their daily reading minutes, earn badges, and celebrate progress!
We’ve already earned our first Spark Badge, and this is only the beginning! The more minutes our students read, the more badges and recognition they’ll earn — individually and as a school.
💪 Why It Matters
Reading every day builds confidence, fluency, and comprehension — key ingredients for lifelong learning. With your partnership, we can ensure every College Park Tiger grows stronger as a reader each week.
Let’s keep reading, learning, and playing to win — together!

Parent Leaders Training
Calling All Parent Leaders!
We’re excited to invite 8–10 parents to become officially certified in Leader in Me® Parents! This half-day (4-hour) training will introduce you to the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families and empower you to take part in future Leader in Me events and initiatives at College Park Elementary.
This opportunity is open to Pre-K through 4th grade parents who want to grow as leaders and partners in our school community. Once our parent leadership cadre is formed, we’ll finalize dates and times.
Our Leader in Me trainer, Betsy Weirda, will lead this engaging session designed to strengthen home-school connections and family leadership.
If you’re interested, please email Dr. Otway directly at otway@fultonschools.org to reserve your spot!
Together, we grow leaders—at school and at home. 🐯💛

This Week’s Leadership in Me Focus
Check out this week’s Leader in Me Article of the Week: Listen before speaking. Families play a vital role in a child’s success not just in academics, but in their growth as leaders and individuals. This week’s article highlights the importance of the home school connection and reminds us that when parents and teachers work together, students thrive.

Building Connections Through Our House Buddy System
This week’s house meeting had a special twist! Our 3–5 students were paired with a K–2 buddy from their same house to launch our House Buddy System a wonderful tradition that helps build community and connections across grade levels. These buddy pairs will stay together all year long, giving older students the chance to be positive role models while our younger learners gain new friends to look up to.
During their first meeting, buddies reviewed Princeton’s Creed, shared fun facts about one another, and enjoyed getting to know their new house partner. It was heartwarming to see so many smiles and meaningful conversations!
We’re already looking forward to next month’s buddy meeting, which will be all about literacy and the joy of reading together.
Storybook Character Day: A Celebration of Literacy!
Our school was filled with joy and imagination during Story Character Day! Students came dressed as their favorite storybook characters. The day was all about celebrating literacy in joyful and engaging ways.
During lunch, students got to be detectives, listening carefully to the voices of our Mystery Readers four staff members who each read a story while keeping their identity secret. The challenge? To figure out who was behind the mystery voice! We are excited to see which class guessed their mystery reader correctly.
Adding to the fun, our amazing parent volunteers served warm apple cider and fresh popcorn while everyone enjoyed the stories. It was a wonderful day of fun, unity, and a shared love of reading!
