New Staff Spotlight
Ms. Olason
Ms. Roberton
Kasie was born and raised in the beautiful Napa Valley in California. She graduated from high school in 1997 and immediately began working for the Napa Valley Unified School District, where her love and passion for supporting children truly began. She joined the Monticello family this year as an extensive paraeducator, and she couldn’t be happier. She feels incredibly fortunate to be part of such an amazing community! She is a proud mom of three beautiful girls with her youngest daughter beginning her first year of middle school at Monticello just like her mom. In her free time, she enjoys camping, swimming, barbecuing, watching the Warriors (Go Warriors!), playing the violin, and, most importantly, spending precious moments with her family. She is excited and grateful to be where she is in life, both personally and professionally. She is thankful for the opportunity to work with such amazing children and feels truly blessed to have been welcomed into the Monticello community.

Strategic Plan In Action At Monticello
Longview Public Schools’ six-year Strategic Plan, launching this year, is a student-centered commitment to ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging, believes in their potential, and has the opportunity to achieve success. Shaped by input from students, staff, families, and community members, the plan centers on the vision “I Belong. I Believe. I Achieve.” and the district promise, “Every Student. Every Day. Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow.” It provides a roadmap for strengthening academic excellence, building meaningful relationships, creating supportive learning environments, and preparing every student for success in the future.
At Monticello, we are focused on two key goal areas: Creating a Safe, Connected, and Thriving School Community and Building Academic Momentum. Below are just a few examples of the ways we are bringing the district's strategic plan to life through our efforts to create a safe, connected, and thriving school community.
Recognizing Students of the Month
September Students of the Month
Congratulations to our September Students of the Month. They were recognized by their teachers for modeling positive character traits and following the 4 Bs of behavior at Monticello. Being Responsible, Being Respectful, Being Safe and Being a Learner.
Highlighting Students Making Positive Choices
Positive Referrals
Celebrating Positive Behaviors
School Wide Assembly Nov 20th - Staff Vs Students Volleyball Game
To recognize and reinforce positive behavior, we are excited to host a special school assembly on Friday, November 20th! During the last half hour of the school day, students will get to enjoy some friendly competition as our 8th grade football team takes on our 8th grade volleyball team in an exciting game of volleyball. The winning team will then have the opportunity to challenge our staff!
This assembly is a celebration of students who consistently demonstrate our 4 Bs:
- Be Responsible
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
- Be a Learner
Our focus this month has been on reducing behavioral incidents and, ultimately, major office referrals. This assembly is an opportunity to recognize students who are making positive choices, taking responsibility for their actions, and helping create a positive school environment.
We look forward to celebrating our students' efforts, showing off some school spirit, and enjoying a little friendly competition between students and staff!
Providing After School Opportunities
Garden Club
Lower Columbia School Gardens (LCSG) offers Monticello students the chance to work in the school garden on several Thursdays this fall. The club meets after school from 2:30 to 4:00 pm with Ms. Hannah. Students will learn how to care for a garden and harvest fresh food. Permission slips are required and can be picked up in the office. Dates: Sept 24th, Oct 8th, Oct 22nd, Nov 5th, & Dec 10th. For more information, contact Ms. Hannah at hannah@lcschoolgardens.org
Hope & KIND Club
Join the Hope & KIND Club!
Led by Ms. Jodi, the Hope & KIND Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month in the LGIC from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. The club promotes kindness throughout the school and encourages students to live a healthy, positive lifestyle. Permission slips are required and can be picked up in Room 103-A. All are welcome to join and make a difference! For more information, contact Ms. Jodi at jfowler@longviewschools.org
Newspaper Club
Is your student interested in creative writing or journalism? Mrs. Peterson invites students to join the school newspaper club, meeting every Thursday after school. It’s a great opportunity to write, share ideas, and be part of something creative and collaborative. If your child is interested, they can stop by Room 200 to speak with Mrs. Peterson. If you would like more information you can reach her at kpeterson@longviewschools.org
Showing Appreciation For Our Staff
Student Shout Outs
As part of our goal to create a safe, connected, and thriving school community, we invited students to recognize and celebrate staff members who have made a positive impact on them. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to share their appreciation and acknowledge the caring adults who help them feel supported, valued, and connected at Monticello!
Here’s just one example of the meaningful connections our staff members are building with students every day:
Mrs. Young was my 6th grade ELA/SS teacher. She was such an awesome teacher and taught me so much! I loved being in her class. I was welcomed, was taught well and had a lot of fun learning along the way. Mrs. Young is an awesome teacher and should be noticed for her hard efforts to help kids learn while having a good time. - F.K.

PTO News
The Monticello PTO meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the school office. Meeting notes from our most recent gathering are attached below. We are always looking for volunteers and would love your support, especially in the Mustang Market, a small student store where kids can purchase snacks, drinks, and other items. The market is open for 20 minutes after school on Wednesdays and Fridays, and we could really use some extra hands to help run it. If you're interested in volunteering at Monticello, you’ll need to be CHAMP-approved through the district. To begin the approval process, please click the link below. Thank you for supporting our school community!
