Spectacular September!
Dear RHJ Families,
September was a great month of school! We took our first iReady assessments in Reading and Math, celebrated our Jaguars of the Week, and had our first monthly PBIS Incentives and House Team Challenge events. Our scholars have been getting familiar with our academic and behavior expectations and so many of them are truly rising to the expectations!
As we move into October, our Middle School Cheer and Basketball tryouts and practice seasons are beginning, and our afterschool and lunch time opportunities are getting underway. For our families, we are hosting our first School Parent Organization (SPO) "Chat and Chew" Meeting on Tuesday, October 20 at 5:30pm, followed by a Family Fun Empowerment Night with activities for your entire family! See the flyer below for more details. I look forward to seeing you.
Best,
Principal Roye

Get Informed!
Online Gradebook
Do you know your child’s grades? All parents/guardians should sign up for the CMSD Online Gradebook. This app gives you 24-7 access to your child’s grades so you can stay informed and help your child succeed. View details here: Welcome
Teachers are required to enter grades every 3rd week of the quarter. By now, every child should have grades already entered by their teachers for the first three weeks of school.
Class Dojo
All families should also sign up for Class Dojo. This two-way app lets you communicate with your child’s teachers similar to texting and allows you to view daily posts about homework, events, and other reminders. Your child’s teacher can provide you with a link to sign up.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS
JAGUAR VALUES
STUDENT CELL PHONE POLICY
As we did last year at Jamison, we will continue to make our school a cell phone-free space to improve teaching and learning experiences. This change aligns with CMSD’s board policy that states that “To maintain a secure and orderly learning environment, students who choose to bring a personal cellphone or electronic device to school will have their phone/device subject to collection and/or storage during the student school day.” This policy follows Ohio House Bill 250, which requires the minimization of cell phone use in schools. We believe that phones have great utility. We have also found that learning and social behavior improve drastically when students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates.
If there is an emergency and you would like to contact your child during the school day, please reach out to the main office at 216-838-5400. To best serve your child, we appreciate your full support in the continued adoption of the cell-phone free policy at our school and across the district.
Phones are not to be used during the school day.
DAILY PROCESS
Morning Entry (Main Entrance)
As students Enter the Building, they will:
Turn off their phones.
- Place their phones and smartwatches/earbuds inside their assigned phone storage pouch.
*Phones will be securely stored and locked for the duration of the school day.
*Students arriving late or leaving early will drop off/pick up their phones from the Main Office.
Dismissal (Main Hall)
Students will pick up their phones from the main hallway by selecting and unlocking their assigned phone pouch. The pouch is returned to its numbered pocket and remains in the school.
VIOLATIONS
Using Phone During School
If a student is caught with their phone:
1st Offense -- Phone Collected & Parent Notification. Phone Returned at End of Day.
2nd Offense -- Phone Collected & Call Home. Phone Returned End of Day or Held for Parent Pickup.
3rd Offense or Repeated Offenses -- Level 2Q offense, which may warrant a suspension.
Responsibility/Liability
Any student who chooses to bring a cellular phone or other electronic device to school shall do so at their and their family’s own risk. The District and its employees will assume no responsibility or liability for loss, theft, damage or vandalism to a cellular phone or other electronic device brought onto school transportation or property, even during times the phone or device are subject to the collection or storage process of the District. To this end, families are not required to send any personal cell phone or electronic device to school with their student and are encouraged to carefully evaluate all associated risks and benefits when deciding whether to send a cell phone or electronic device to school with a student.
PARKING LOT GUIDELINES FOR PICK UP & DROP OFF
In order to maintain a safe school parking lot that is shared with Staff, Parents, Caregivers, other
Community Members, and District Personnel, please follow these agreements:
- Cones will be placed across the parking lot near the entrance/exit near East 144th Street and Ross Avenue: separating the staff parking section from access for drop-off and pick-ups.
- Do not remove designated cones or go around or through cones.
- ONLY use the parking lot designated pick-up lane.
- NO double-parking or blocking of the exit lanes or teacher parking spaces.
- NEVER park in bus pick-up/drop off zones.
- Once you pick up your child, please leave the premises to allow others space in the pick-up lane.
- You are encouraged to park along 144th Street and 146th Street in any spaces, as long as you are not parked in any designated bus lanes and bus pick up/drop off zones.
- ONLY PreK and K parents should use the 146th Street pick up zones.
PARENT/GUARDIAN VISITOR POLICY
For the safety of our students and staff, please note:
- Visitors must enter through the main door and proceed immediately to the receptionist upon entry to the building.
- Visitors must sign the visitor log and indicate the reason for the visit to the school.
- Visitors must present identification before being given a Raptor Badge that must be worn in a visible place. In the case Raptor is down, the visitor will receive a visitor sticker which must be worn in a visible place.
- Visitors are required to remain in the office. Should there be special arrangements made with a staff member, the Visitor will be required to be accompanied by a school escort while in the building, including being walked to the classroom and walked back to the office.
- Visitors must pre-arrange any meetings or visits with School personnel prior to entering the building, including classroom events (i.e. celebration, awards, ceremony, etc.). Contact the teacher via Class Dojo or via the main school number at 216-838-5400 to make an appointment.
- Visits will be limited to 30 minutes per visit to avoid disruption to the education process.
- Visitors must turn in the Raptor Badge (or sticker) and sign out before exiting the building.
- All visitors must exit through the main door.
- Visitors may be requested to leave the building at any time for any reason at the sole discretion of the Principal.
- Teachers shall have the discretion to limit access when visitation will cause disruption to the educational process, per Article 10, Section 9.
- All people entering the School property, building, offices, or classrooms, must act respectful and nonthreatening in manner. Disruptive or threatening behavior by a visitor, will result in a request for that person to leave the School property. In the case of repeated incidents of this nature, such people may be banned from returning to the School property. In the case of extreme and/or continued disturbances, the local legal authorities will be called, and such person may be charged with disorderly conduct.
- The School reserves the right to deny access to anyone, including parents, to the School facility and grounds at any time at the Principal’s sole discretion.
