Siskin Outdoor Learning Center @ Walden School Siskin Outdoor Learning Center @ Walden School

Our fifth and sixth graders had their second of three scheduled afternoons working with Siskin Outdoor Learning Center instructor Paul this past Monday. Students once again engaged in activities that focused on building resilience and leadership while at the same time presenting them with challenges that help build executive functioning skill development. One activity in particular was very engaging for students as they got to use a carving knife to turn a block of wood into a spoon. Students were working on understanding how they can use the focus and energy they put into high engagement and more dangerous activities into low risk, low energy activities and how to be conscious of that difference.

Dental Van Update Dental Van Update

Terri Weinstein, the dental hygienist that we have been working with through 802 smiles, has visited our school twice. The first time, she completed a very basic dental screening on students and found that Walden school students are great at taking care of their teeth! We also found that most of our students have dental homes in place. While having the dental van visit our school would be convenient for some families, we do not have enough students in need at this time to warrant a visit. We plan to revisit this in the spring. If you find that your child is in need of dental care and would like to have them seen in the spring, please let me know so I can keep a list. If we have 10 or more students in need, we should be able to have the dental van visit this Spring.
