Falcon Update
Heritage Middle School-Week of March 2nd
Letter from the Principal
Dear HMS Families,
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Science Showcase. Congratulations to all of our 8th graders who completed their Roller Coaster Projects. All of the projects were amazing, and the students showcased their creativity and mastery of science content through their work.
Congratulations as well to our band students who participated in the Berwyn Band Festival on Saturday, and to our Robotics Team who competed in Battle of the Bots. Our students have had many opportunities to showcase their talents across academics and the arts, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. Make sure you scroll down to see a few pictures from these events.
We do not have school on Monday, March 2nd and we have a Late Start on Tuesday, March 3rd. On Tuesday, students should not arrive on campus prior to 9:05, as staff will be in a meeting.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is available for families to take. Click on the following link to begin http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/. For the county, please write Cook and look for Heritage Middle School - Berwyn. The survey will be open until March 13, 2026, and we need 20% of our families to complete it. Right now, we only 12% of our families who have completed this. Please take a few minutes to fill it out; we greatly appreciate your feedback.
We will begin the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Students will need USB-C headphones to complete these assessments. Please check with your student to ensure they have a working pair of headphones. They will need to have them by March 18th.
It is a new month so we will be updating our attendance incentive for the month! We will still be doing our weekly incentive where students can earn 50 PBIS Points, Friday Dress Down, and be entered into the raffle for a Canes free meal certificate if they have perfect attendance throughout the week. Anyone with perfect attendance during IAR testing will then attend the Minute it to Win it Assembly.
Thank you,
Michelle Hauer

PBIS Rewards
We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!
StopIt
This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.
Breakfast & Lunch
Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.
Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
Below will be where you can find the menus for Heritage through OrganicLife.
