Each week, I'll be sending out our weekly newsletter, the Tiger Choir Chronicles, sometime between Sunday and Monday. It will also be posted on the choir website under "Weekly Updates." Please be sure to read the full news update each week for reminders, upcoming events, and news. There is a lot of information in this week's newsletter so please be sure to read through everything that applies to your student.

I am just overwhelmed by your generosity and love the enthusiasm surrounding our choir program right now. "The Music Man" Field Trip

On Tuesday, September 22, we will take a field trip to Downtown Houston to see the Theatre Under the Stars' production of "The Music Man." This is a classic Broadway show and we are so fortunate to have a nationally recognized theatre organization right here in Houston producing it. For student groups, the discounted ticket price is $20 for anyone in the group so I hope several of you will join us as chaperones for a night out on the town!

Itinerary for the evening is:

5:30 pm: Report to THS Choir Room

5:45 pm: Depart for Hobby Center

7:30 pm: Showtime

11:00 pm (approx): Return to THS

If your child is interested in participating in this event, please fill out THIS FORM and return to school. Hard copies will be distributed in class for students to bring home. Please also note that all participants including family members will travel together on the busses. The only exceptions that can be made are for families with limited mobility. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

If your child is interested in voice lessons, please email me to confirm that they would like to sign up and I will put you in contact with one of our teachers. AAC Level-Down Forms

If your child is currently in the Choir AAC course and would like to level down, applications are now available from the counselor's office. Please have your child stop by to retrieve the packet and gather the requested signatures ASAP so that the counseling department can begin processing them. Weekly AAC recordings will soon begin on All State Music so we want to ensure the course code gets switched as soon as possible.

District Auditions

The first round of this year's All-State process will take place on Saturday, September 19 at Clements High School. All students in Chorale are required to audition, and all non-varsity students have the option to participate. I am so excited by the amount of students who have taken on this challenge! Please note, that for non-Chorale students, there is a $30 audition fee that has been added in Presto. In order for me to enter your child, this fee MUST be paid by Tuesday, September 1.

As a reminder for students in Choir AAC- students MUST audition for the District AND Region rounds to fulfill the requirements of the AAC class.

Chorale Updates

Chorale is off to a great start! In addition to everything above, we discussed varsity expectations for these students. They have a much more demanding schedule compared to other classes with several that I'd like to highlight for Varsity Chorale parents:

  • Students are required to sing at Football Games listed on the choir calendar. These will all be performance grades for students. Transportation for football games is NOT provided so please begin planning now.
  • Students are required to audition for the District round of the All-State process. Should they advance it is their choice whether or not to continue, but all students are required to learn the district round music that has been provided to them. Please check in with your child to ensure they are practicing and working on the music as the mock auditions are fast approaching and count as a major grade.
  • Sectionals: Sectionals are offered for students auditioning in the All-State process. As of now they are NOT required, however, students need to be working independently and coming to sectionals for maximum success. They have practice tracks available to them in their Schoology course. While sectionals are not graded, the Mock Audition will be so please check in on your child to ensure they are practicing and working on the first round of music.

Presto Assistant

Thank you so everyone so far who has logged in to Presto to sign forms and pay fees. As a reminder, all fees and most forms this year will be done via the Presto Assistant website. To access the website, please CLICK HERE. A few points below:

  • If you are NEW to the THS Choir Program: You should have received several emails from Presto Assistant inviting you to finishing setting up your profile. I have already created a profile for every student and the first parent listed in Skyward. The email listed in Skyward is the email that should have received the Presto email. Please follow the directions to complete your profile set up in order to pay fees and sign required forms.
  • If you are a returning parent who does not remember your Presto login, please follow the directions on the website to reset your password to access your account.
  • If you have multiple students and both students do not appear in your parent account, please let me know so that I can ensure they are linked correctly.
  • Presto Assistant does not allow student profiles to pay choir fees or sign forms so please ensure you are able to access your account.

I appreciate those of you who have reached out with your issues as I am working closely with the Presto team to solve individual issues and inform them on how to better streamline the platform for parents.
