March 2025
Welcome to our Monthly Update
Dear Scituate School Community,
As we step into the coming of spring, we also approach a fresh season of learning! This month, we’ll continue our efforts to create an environment that supports growth, innovation, and collaboration.
During this time of year, there's always so much to celebrate at the Scituate School Department! From celebrating our students' achievements to preparing for upcoming spring events, March is sure to be full of energy and inspiration.
I encourage our school community to take a look at the student achievements and school highlights featured in this newsletter, as well as each principal's school newsletters. I look forward to the continued progress and success of our school community, and I am grateful for the dedication and commitment of every educator, student, and family member who makes our schools a vibrant place for learning.
Warm Regards,
Superintendent Andries
Scituate School Department

PACT Update
PACT - Parent and Administrator Communications Team
During the month of February, the Scituate School Department held two PACT meetings where discussions focused on the budget process and curriculum. We appreciate having these conversations and hearing feedback directly from parents. We are also planning on holding Parent Nights in the spring and homework support sessions for students. We will update the community with more information as we continue to hold these meetings.

What's Happening in Scituate
Clayville
- In February, students at Clayville had so much fun showing what 100 days of school means to them.
Hope
- At the end of the trimester, Hope pulled all students' attendance records and identified the students who had superstar attendance during the first trimester. To celebrate, each student received a special certificate at the weekly community meeting and was invited to a pizza party!
- During winter benchmark testing, all students in 5R increased their math scores from the fall. They celebrated with a special treat!
- As part of Hope's school wide hallway expectations, one second-grade class earned ALL of their STARS! As a reward for walking in the hallway quietly and respectfully, students voted on a special celebratory day and decided on a Stuffed Animal Day!
Hope students had a special visit from New York Times Best Selling Author Marc Colagiovanni. Marc talked to students about how he came to be an Author and the importance of pursuing your dreams. Students were thrilled to have Marc read his books, "When Things Aren't Going Right, Go Left" and "The Reflection in Me." Thank you to the Hope PTA for coordinating this special visit for our students!
North Scituate
- 1st grade students in Mrs. Lancellotta's class learned about their hearts and how fast they beat in a health class with Mrs. McCann.
- 5th graders completed their "Food Web and Chain" Mystery Science unit. Students demonstrated their understanding by constructing their own food web with a classmate. Students also hosted an Animal Adaptation Showcase where families were invited to school to learn about different animals and their adaptations. Students spent weeks researching, writing, revising, editing, and creating a Google slide presentation!
- 2nd grade students designed bird feeder prototypes in Mrs. O'Grady's classroom. In a Mystery Science lesson, students investigated which kinds of birds are likely to visit a bird feeder based on what they eat. In the activity, Design a Bird Feeder, students first draw their own bird feeder design to attract a specific type of bird. Then, they build a prototype of their bird feeder using available materials.
Scituate Middle School
- Congratulations to Scituate Middle School’s Elliana Pagliarini, who earned her third win during the Scituate School Department Spelling Bee!
- The SMS Cheer team competed in their first competition of the season. While it didn't end the way they'd hoped, the girls were on fire! We are so proud of them all.
- The Scituate Middle School Wrestling team enjoyed celebrating their 8th graders as students finish up their wrestling season!
Scituate High School
- Scituate High School's Open House was an incredible night! Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this night so special for interested families and students!
- The SHS Childhood Education Academy visited students at North Scituate to teach a lesson on kindness! High school students designed puzzles, a bingo game, and workbooks to help teach elementary students the importance of being kind to others.
- Our athletes are beginning to wrap up their seasons, and as they do, their teammates are working hard to celebrate their Seniors!
