PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, April 17th
We got to meet some of our incoming Kindergartners this week at a lovely story time on Wednesday. Thank you to all those who attended and to PTA Early Childhood Chairs, Jamie Knapstein and Brittany Sievert, for organizing a fun craft for our newest Panthers.
Our 4th Graders took us for a night out to the movies on Thursday and performed a medley of hits from films such as The Wiz, Annie, The Greatest Showman, and more! They embraced the bright lights of the Patton stage with gusto and delivered a truly award winning performance! Huge thanks go to Mr. Whitaker and the 4th Grade teaching team for helping our panthers prepare for the show.
EARTH DAY - WED., APRIL 22nd (NEW POST!)
To honor Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd we are encouraging students to wear the colors of the earth - blues, greens, and browns.
We are also encouraging all to try to minimize trash on this day! If you are packing a lunch for your child, please consider using reusable containers, non-disposable items and/or recyclable packaging so we can reduce our waste in honor of Earth Day! If the weather complies, it would be an excellent opportunity to ride bikes or walk to school.
WALKATHON FUNDRAISERS (NEW POST!)
This is the time of year that we get excited for the Walkathon and start raising money for the wonderful Make-a-Wish Foundation! We have many fun spirit days coming up so please mark your calendars and take part in as many as you wish! Any donation is welcome so let's have some fun and raise as much money as we can for this amazing cause!
PATTON STEAM DAY VIDEO (NEW POST!)
Adam Harris, the district's Head of Communication and Storytelling, came to visit us during our STEAM day a couple of weeks ago and made an amazing video for us! If you want to see what the students got up to, click on the button below!
MAP TESTING (2nd Post!)
MAP testing has begun! Students in grades K-5 will test in both reading and math.
Classroom teachers will share their testing schedules with you. We ask that you try to schedule any appointments or other outside activities around the assigned testing days and times.
Your support in making sure your child gets a good night of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on testing day is appreciated.
ROAD SAFETY AROUND PATTON (2nd Post!)
We received notification from a parent and a neighbor recently about some incorrectly parked cars and some hazardous driving at the intersections of Maude and Harvard. Please adhere to the parking signage on the streets surrounding Patton and please remember that parking is not allowed on Maude and Harvard between 8:00-9:00 am and 3:00-4:00 pm on school days.
Please also ensure that you are following the speed limit and be aware of pedestrians in the cross walk on Maude. We have been informed of a couple of close calls recently.
As the weather warms up we anticipate an increase in walkers, and more students using bikes and scooters so we appreciate everyone's cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe. For those biking and scootering, we appreciate everyone remembering to wait to ride them until they are off school property.
STUDENTS NOT RETURNING TO PATTON FOR 26-27 SCHOOL YEAR (2nd Post!)
Please contact Mrs. Hamilton or Mrs. Dunning in the office if you have any questions. Thank you so much!

PTA REFLECTIONS - CELEBRATION (2nd Post!)
Twelve Patton Panthers were celebrated at the Northwest Cook Region PTA Reflections ceremony that was held in Schaumburg on Monday. All of these students’ projects, ranging from literature to photography, advanced to the State Level. These students will have a unique opportunity to showcase their projects and engage in workshops on April 18th at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Super cool!
At the ceremony, the PTA also unveiled the theme for next year: “What My Culture Means to Me.” We would love Patton students to start thinking about creatively expressing this theme.
Finally, every student who participated in Reflections this year will be honored at the District 25 meeting on Tuesday, April 21st at 7pm.

GYM, RECESS AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES (ONGOING POST!)
Excusing Children from PE - Physical Education
Parents may request that their child be excused from Physical Education for one day due to a medical reason. Any absence beyond one day requires a physician’s note.
For elementary students, physician orders must clearly state any restrictions for both Physical Education and Recess. Students who are unable to participate in Physical Education may not participate in school-sponsored sports clubs during that time.
Excusing Children from Outdoor Activities / Recess
Elementary students regularly participate in outdoor activities during Physical Education classes, daily recess, and the lunch period. For the safety of all students, children are expected to go outside during these times unless there is a documented medical reason. If your child needs to remain indoors, a physician’s note is required that specifically states the outdoor restriction.
After School Activities and Events
Students absent from classes on the day of an extracurricular event may not be allowed to participate in that day’s activities or event. Prior planning by parents and school helps eliminate any such conflicts.
