What are Learning Gains?
- Measurement of growth from one year to the next year
- Growth must sufficiently meet the prescribed criteria
- May be demonstrated in English Language Arts and Mathematics
How can a Student Make a Gain?
When looking at their 2025 PM3 Score one of the following needs to happen for the 2026 PM3:
- Increase at least one Achievement Level
- Advance from one subcategory within Achievement Level 1 or 2 to a higher subcategory
- Remain at Achievement Level 3 or Level 4 or Level 5 and increase scale score
How do I find out what score my child needs to make a gain?
- Students were provided with stickers of their last school year PM3 score and the minimum number of gains needed for this current years PM3 in both ELA and Math.
- Review the sticker with your child and set goals for how you as a family can work towards making the gains.
Incentive for Gains in both ELA and Math
Students who make a gain in both Math and ELA will be invited to participate in a gains for games event during the afternoon on May 26th.
This “Minute to Win It”–style competition is a fast-paced event where participants compete in a series of simple but challenging games that must be completed in an allotted time. Teams race against the clock to finish tasks using everyday items, like stacking cups, balancing cookies, or moving objects without using their hands. Each completed challenge earns points and the team with the highest score at the end wins. The format encourages friendly competition, quick thinking, and lots of laughter.
