We are excited to share that school leaders from across the country will be visiting the Olathe School District next week! Canyon Creek has been selected as one of the schools they will visit on Wednesday, October 21!

During their visit, we will have the opportunity to showcase some of the amazing things happening at Canyon Creek, including our Project-Based Learning (PBL) and CREWS structure. Our fifth-grade Cami Ambassadors will lead school tours, and a panel of teachers will share their experiences and answer questions about our school.

We are asking all students to wear their CREW shirts on Wednesday, October 21, to show our Canyon Creek pride!

To prepare our Learning Stairs for the visit, we will need to have the lunchroom cleaned and ready. We will not be able to accommodate lunch guests on Wednesday, October 21. Thank you for your understanding!

We are proud of our Chameleons and can't wait to show our visitors what makes Canyon Creek such a special place to learn and grow!

This week, students in grades 3–5 will be taking their Math Benchmark Assessments and ELA Common Formative Assessments. These assessments serve as our state assessments this year and will be administered quarterly, with scores combined to determine a final score at the end of the school year.

Testing Schedule:

• Grades 4 & 5: Tuesday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 21

• Grade 3: Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23

Families can help students feel prepared and confident by ensuring they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school ready to do their best! We encourage students to take their time, read carefully, and show what they know.

There are lots of fun costume options out there! While your child may choose a scary or gory costume for Halloween night, these types of costumes are not appropriate for school. Please help your child use discretion when choosing a costume for our parade and parties.

For everyone’s safety and comfort at Canyon Creek, please avoid:

• Costumes that appear bloody, gory, or violent

• Weapons or look-alikes (e.g., toy guns, knives, spears, scythes) — leave these at home

• Masks that circulate colored liquid must remain turned off while at school

If you have questions about costume choices, please check with Mrs. James.

Event Day Details (Friday, October 30)

• Parade: 9:15 AM

  • Weather permitting, the parade will be outside on the playground.

  • Spectators may set up chairs in designated areas around the perimeter and in the center of the playground. Bring your camera and join us!

  • Inclement weather plan: Parade moves inside.

• Classroom Parties: Immediately after the parade and end at 10:00 AM.

• Room Parents: May go to classrooms to begin set-up at 8:55 AM.

Costumes at School

• Students should arrive in costume.

• They may stay in costume all day or change after the party.

• Accessories will be stored in lockers after the party.

• Parents who choose to dress up should follow the same guidelines as students.

Providing a safe and secure learning environment for students is of paramount importance in the Olathe Public Schools. Please remember that District policy requires us to ask for ID from EVERYONE each time they enter the building. Please remember to have your driver's license ready for the camera at the door when you arrive at Canyon Creek.

If you are thinking about becoming more involved at our amazing school, the PTO wants you. There are many ways to get involved from large to small.

The PTO is for everybody and we are so glad to be part of the CY community.

Please consider donating $5 per student to assist in covering the cost of class parties. Throughout the year, the PTO helps to support three class parties: Halloween, Holiday, and Valentine's Day. Payment can be made via Venmo (@CanyonCreekPTO), cash or check (payable to Canyon Creek PTO).
