Creating Lizards in ELA Creating Lizards in ELA

As part of their study of the novel Holes, students in Ms. Acker’s 7th grade ELA class brought the story to life by creating their own yellow-spotted lizards. In the novel, these lizards are dangerous creatures that inhabit the dry lakebed where the main character is sent, symbolizing the harsh conditions and challenges faced by the characters. By designing and modeling the lizards, students deepened their understanding of the novel’s setting, symbolism, and themes while engaging in a creative, hands-on learning experience that made the text more memorable.

Picture Book Activity in Library Picture Book Activity in Library

As award-winning children's author Kate DiCamillo said, "Stories give kids the language to talk about things that matter." Mr. Haussener's and Mrs. Pauling's lesson focused on picture books as 'wizards of compact precision' that establish character, create setting, develop plot and resolve conflict, all in less than 40 pages. Our picture books for older readers often tackle sophisticated themes and tough subjects or illuminate the lives and accomplishments of famous women and men. An activity in the lesson saw students pairing up to read a picture book of their choice together as well as analyzing text and images before and after reading.

RAPS Cookie Decorating RAPS Cookie Decorating

As part of our RAPS positive behavior program, students from each grade level were recognized with a special cookie decorating activity. Five winners from each grade earned the opportunity to bring a friend and enjoy decorating (and eating) cookies together. This fun celebration helps us to recognize our students for doing the right thing. We loved seeing students connect, laugh, and celebrate their successes together.

SunTech Trip SunTech Trip

Our 8th grade students and teachers made the annual visit to Sun Area Technical Institute in New Berlin, PA. Students toured the school and rotated through three different technical programs, where they had the opportunity to learn by doing. Projects included building custom tool boxes in Carpentry, wiring Ethernet cables in Computer Networking, creating FM radios and Bluetooth speakers in Electrical-Mechanical Technology, crafting mini model cannons in Precision Metalworking, and many others.

Our visit was featured in the Daily Item and the Standard Journal, with some great quotes from our students about the visit. Check out the articles by clicking on the hyperlink! SunTech also shared a photo album with many action shots of our students in the nineteen programs that were available to explore. Parents/guardians, please view the parent letter (attached below) that was provided by SunTech.

This experience highlights the strong partnership between the Lewisburg Area School District and SunTech, giving students early exposure to career pathways and real-world skills. A huge thank you to the Green Dragon Foundation for their generous financial support, which makes opportunities like this possible for our students.

Wrestling Assembly Wrestling Assembly

On December 19, our junior high wrestling team took on Wellsboro during a school-day assembly, creating an unforgettable atmosphere in the gym. Cheered on by the entire student body, our wrestlers demonstrated determination, sportsmanship, and school pride on the mat.

A special thank you to our Dynamic Dragons, under the direction of Mrs. Tiede, for their beautiful performance of the National Anthem, which set the tone for a meaningful and exciting event. We are grateful to our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and students for making this assembly such a memorable showcase of teamwork and community spirit.
