Blanson CTE Virtual Open House a Rousing Success

Blanson CTE held its first-ever virtual Open House last Monday, December 7th and it was a success. 111 parents and guardians participated in the Open House.

Parents and guardians had the opportunity to find out information about the programs of study their child was part of. They also got the opportunity to meet their child's teachers and also participate in sessions on Home Access Center, Social-Emotional Learning, and College Planning.

The Open House ended with a Question and Answer session with the counselors. The counselors answered questions about final exams, scheduling, and graduation. The questions and answers that the counselors provided can be accessed at the link below.

Blanson CTE participates in the Aldine School of Choice Virtual Festival

The Aldine School of Choice virtual festival was held on Saturday, December 12th. The festival was an opportunity for parents and students to learn more about the different Schools of Choice that Aldine provides.

After the opening session, parents and students logged into the Blanson chat room to learn more about Blanson CTE and the programs it offers. Parents asked questions concerning the application process, eligibility, and programs of study.

While the application for applying to Blanson CTE and other schools of choice has not been released yet, there is a form to fill out to show interest in whatever school of choice parents and students are interested in. Once the application is made public, those parents and students who filled out the interest form will be informed that they can apply to Blanson CTE. They will also be sent a link to the application. The link for the Aldine ISD Schools of Choice Interest form is: https://forms.gle/DDhx9VFK8kzi4LUR7

Blanson CTE High School to partner with the University of Houston to provide logistics certification to students

A partnership between Blanson CTE High School, Aldine ISD, and the Supply Chain & Logistics Technology Program in the College of Technology at the University of Houston will enable students in the Distribution & Logistics program at Blanson to receive international certifications from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). CILT is the oldest international transportation and logistics organization in the world. The partnership was announced on Tuesday, December 8th. Funding for the program was provided through the Port of Houston Community Grants Program.

Thirty-two juniors and seniors from Blanson CTE will take part in the program. The students were selected from the Distribution and Logistics program at Blanson. This is the first time the University of Houston in partnership with CILT has offered this program.

Shawn Bingham, Distribution and Logistics teacher at Blanson, said, “I am so happy that the students in my program will have this opportunity to grow in knowledge and experience. This partnership will help make Blanson one of the premier CTE high schools in the Houston area.”

Margaret Kidd, Program Director, Supply Chain & Logistics Technology, College of Technology, University of Houston said, “Our goal is to close the skills gap in a region that has become Americas Global Logistics Hub. By addressing gaps in skill sets and focusing on filling those gaps, our K-12, community college and university students, not only become more marketable at multiple scales, but more saliently, have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Applying the power of technology and innovation toward solving real world challenges is what fuels us in the College of Technology,”

Students who complete the program will receive a certificate credentialed by CILT for Introduction to Logistics, Introduction to Business Communication and Transportation Distribution in Logistics.
