Arrival and Dismissal

THE FRONT PARKING LOT WILL BE CLOSED TO VEHICLE TRAFFIC

After much consideration for student safety and social distancing, the front parking lot will be closed to traffic until further notice (beginning at 8 am). Beginning at 8:15 am, families may use this space as a viewing/wait area in saying farewell and hello to our Stars. Partitions will be placed as a reminder and staff will direct you to the Alameda Parks and Recreation lot at the end of the block, near the park. PARKING is limited, so prepare to park safely in the neighborhood, or walk to school. Please remember our Bayport neighbors as this process is new for all of us! We are one community!

Also, due to our rotating schedule, all students should arrive during their scheduled time and be picked up on time. Gates will be open 10 minutes prior for each group so pick up and learning can begin at the scheduled time. If you have different times to drop off students, please create a family plan as we cannot accommodate supervision between staggered arrivals as of yet. Students will need to be supervised until arrival on campus for learning.

Arrival:

We will begin to receive students 10 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.

TK/K families will locate the teachers name and direct students to line up on a red star in the designated line. A 1st-5th grade adult may wait on the playground blacktop with their STAR on the red star on Day 1 only. Make sure to socially distance.

  • All students must arrive with a mask or approved nose/mouth covering and wear the duration of the time on campus. Dress for the weather.
  • If Stars arrive by bike, they may secure their wheels in the bike cage at the front of our school. Families are responsible for securing bikes as we cannot be responsible.
  • Once students line up, daily screening will be verified and the teacher will escort students to class for the day's activities. Parents will not be allowed on campus as an added safety measure.
  • If your child is symptomatic, you will be called to immediately pick up student and directed with next steps. Students will wait in the isolation room.

Dismissal

For dismissal, please be patient. Remember social distancing at all times. Anyone on campus MUST be masked. Teachers will dismiss students to you as you arrive for pick up. Please direct your student accordingly if they are walking to/from school.

Covid Testing Bi-weekly

Every in-person student and staff Star is required to take a Covid test to attend in person learning. This means if your student tested the week of March 7, 2021, they would need to retest within 10-12 days (March 17- 19th) to meet the two week testing requirement of March 21st. It takes 24-48 hours to receive results.

Ruby Bridges will continue to offer offering testing on Friday, 9-5 pm, Saturday, March 20th, and Sunday, March 21. PLEASE DO NOT wait until the last minute to test as the turn around time is 24-48 hours. Testing can be arranged by appointments here: AUSD’s Student COVID-19 Testing web page:, or by walk ins, no appointment necessary. All testing must be through our AUSD partners at AUSD sites.

AUSD testing questions can be directed here: StudentC19@alamedaunified.org

Thank you for doing your part to help us all stay safe!

March Life Skill- Self Reflection

"Self-reflection is defined as a mental process you can use to grow your understanding of who you are, what your values are, and why you think, feel, and act the way you do. When you self-reflect and become more conscious of what drives you, you can more easily make changes that help you more easily develop and/or improve your life."

This month we are learning about Self-reflection.

Toolbox for March

Throughout February we will focus on the following Toolbox Tools. Our tools help us deal with our feelings and emotions in manageable ways. Ask our stars about the tools.

Apology and Forgiveness Tool- I admit my mistakes and forgive yours.

Patience Tool- I am strong enough to wait.

Zoom Safety

  • Please don’t interrupt your child unless s/he needs some help during class.
  • Please be aware that loud background noise - such as music, appliances, conversations or arguments - can be distracting not only to your own child but to the teacher and other students in the class.
  • Please watch your language! Please remember that the camera picks up what’s happening in the room where your child is working. As such, we ask that:
  • You be fully clothed while your child is online.
  • You avoid distracting behavior, such as dancing, cleaning, exercising, or eating.
  • Please do not try to lead or teach in breakout rooms unless you have gone through our volunteer vetting process and are working directly with the teacher to support the class.
  • If possible, please try to find a space where your child can work away from distractions and interruptions and possibly where the camera faces a wall.
