We Pray
Saint of the Month
This Sunday, October 18 is the feast day of our school's beloved St. Luke! St. Luke, we thank you for the many blessings you have given us already. Please pray for all of the St. Luke's students, teachers, workers, and families. May we all grow closer to Jesus just like you. Amen.
We Learn
We are excited to partner with Kids Create again to offer an After School program that will include both visual arts and culinary arts.
Class Description:
This 1 hour after school program is 1/2 culinary arts and 1/2 visual arts. During the visual art sessions, students will learn about glass fusing and create a beautiful keepsake glass ornament. We will also practice turning our own unique designs into completed artworks as we draft, transfer, and paint a ceramic ornament. You'll love hanging these artworks on the tree each year!
During the culinary sessions, students will explore some of the season’s favorite flavors. We’ll investigate mixing chocolate with complimentary foods and enjoy hot cocoa. We'll also explore creating snack mixes and create our own version to take home. Along the way, students will practice cooking skills, participate in hands-on food experiments and taste tests, and make delicious no-cook recipes.
We will rotate back and forth with one week being culinary arts and the next one visual art. Our first session on November 3rd will be visual art.
This class is for students who attend St Lukes.

Volunteers Needed for Extracurricular Programs
Chess Club
Do you enjoy playing chess? Would you like to share the love of the game with the next generation? We are looking for a few parents who would be willing to lead a chess club for St. Luke's students. You don't need to be a Grandmaster - just someone who knows the rules of play and a little bit of strategy! If interested in learning more, Contact Rachel Thomas at rhthomas179@gmail.com.
Robotics
We are exploring the possibility of offering an after school Robotics program and are looking for a few volunteers who might be willing to lead a program here at St. Luke's. No experience needed -- just an interest in STEM and a willingness to learn alongside our students. If interested in learning more, please contact Rachel Thomas at rhthomas179@gmail.com.
Help shape the future of early childhood education at Our Lady’s Little Learners Preschool. We are exploring options to modify programming for children ages 0–5 to best serve the parishes of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, St. Luke the Evangelist, and the local Ankeny community.
Please take a few minutes to complete our brief survey (one per household), especially if you have young children. Your feedback will have a direct impact on education offerings in Ankeny. To complete the survey, scan the QR code in the bulletin, or visit bit.ly/AnkenyECESurvey (case sensitive). Thank you for your input and support!

The Herd is Gathering!
Oxtoberfest has moved to a new weekend this year so it does not conflict with the school’s Fall Break! We’d love to see your family join us for the fun, food, and fellowship that have become a hallmark of our annual parish festival and fundraiser!
Registrations are OPEN NOW for the 5K Run/Walk Stampede, Kids’ Mini-Stampede Races (ages 5+), and our annual Stein-Holding Contests. Oxtoberfest long-sleeved T-shirts are also available for purchase through the Stampede & Shirts registration.
Race and Stein-Holding registrations will remain open through the morning of the festival, but register by Wednesday, October 7, to guarantee your shirt!
Visit the parish Events page for contest details and slte.org/oxtoberfest-2026 for more details about the day’s activities.
Students needing service hours will also find a variety of opportunities for volunteering, helping us make Oxtoberfest a great day for the whole St. Luke's community!
Please join us for the 65th Annual Dowling Catholic Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, October 25 in the Varied Industries Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds! Enjoy breakfast, activities hosted by our student clubs, a bake sale, games for all ages, and live performances from the DCHS band and choir — all in support of the Student Activities Endowment.
