Reading

In Unit 3, Government at Work, students are learning about the role of government in our society and in our personal lives. For example, how firefighters or police officers keep us safe or how a local worker helps to keep public areas clean. We will also be discussing what laws are, why we have them, and what happens if they are broken.

UFLI

Students participate in Walk to Read daily for phonics instruction. Students are grouped based on their specific phonics needs so that instruction is differentiated for each child. They will read a variety of stories and play various phonics games.

Math

Throughout Unit 3, students are learning how to estimate and measure lengths using both the customary and metric systems. Students will work with different tools (ruler, yard stick, tape measure, etc.) to determine which tool is best when measuring various items. Students will also learn how to use a line plot to represent the measurement data they collect.
