Hello RMS Parents/Guardians,
Many of our families have completed the review of our District Technology Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). If you have not, this policy must be submitted in order for your child to receive their district-issued MacBook. Please take a few minutes to review and complete the form with your student as soon as possible.
We appreciate your attention to this important step, which ensures that your student can have access to their learning tools responsibly and without delay.
If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We shared this powerpoint during our 1st week of school with our knights on our MacBook Expectations.

Option to share Tribal Affiliations -Sharing this information is voluntary
In Michigan, schools are required to collect certain student information, such as enrollment, demographics, and program participation, and share it with the Michigan Department of Education. This process is required by state and federal law and helps monitor publicly funded education programs.
A new rule in the State School Aid Act now requires schools to also collect information about students’ tribal affiliations. This change was developed with input from Tribal Nations in Michigan. Families have the option to share tribal affiliation information. Sharing this information is completely voluntary.
The data will help strengthen communication with Tribal Nations and may allow schools to qualify for additional funding to better support Indigenous students.
If a family chooses to share this information, it will be protected under privacy laws such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), which also prohibits discrimination.
If you would like to report your tribal affiliation, please complete this form by October 7th. (Link: https://fraserk12.jotform.com/252335442152853)
The week in pictures for the week of August 31st
Welcome Castle Crew!
Our PBIS review activities
House Sorting Ceremony: One Castle, Four Houses
Our students officially discovered their house during our House Sorting Ceremony, where Seminar classes were sorted into one of our four houses: Altruismo (black house), Isibindi (green house), Reveur, (blue house) or Amistad (red house). Together, our four houses make up One Castle, building community, teamwork, and Knight pride throughout the school year.
Second Step Lessons engagement for the 26-27 school year
This school year, we will continue to implement the Second Step Middle School program to support our students’ social-emotional learning and growth across five core units.
Mindsets & Goals: Our students will build a growth mindset and applied research-based goal-setting strategies. They will learn to view challenges as opportunities, recognize internal and external obstacles, and develop action plans to achieve their goals.
Developing a Positive Sense of Self: Our students will explore their self-concept, identify guiding principles, and practice strategies to build confidence and envision their future selves.
Thoughts, Emotions & Decisions: Our students will learn to recognize strong emotions and unhelpful thoughts, manage stress, and make thoughtful decisions using emotion-regulation strategies.
Managing Relationships & Social Conflict: Lessons focused on maintaining healthy relationships, understanding diverse perspectives, and resolving conflicts through a four-step problem-solving process.
Recognizing Bullying & Harassment: Our students will learn to identify bullying and harassment, understand their impact, and practice strategies to stand up safely and contribute to a respectful, safe school environment.
Through these lessons, our students will strengthen critical social-emotional skills that foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive school culture. These lessons will be shared three times out of each month during our seminar period on Mondays. Our families' weekly smore will share follow up questions that can extend the learning for home discussion and conversation about the lessons' topics. Our Second Step Lessons will start the week of Sept. 14th

Lunch Menu for May and June at Richards Middle School
Fraser Nutrition Services Website
Honor The Castle by respecting others, modeling responsibility, and making safe choices.
Outside Food and Beverage Policy
Outside food delivery is a safety concern. We do not want to have strangers and people that we do not know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. It also is a workload issue for office personnel. Managing multiple food deliveries during lunchtime becomes an additional responsibility for our office staff.
The District works hard to provide a variety of healthy, good-tasting food in its cafeterias, and students are always free to bring their own lunch to school. We will continue to follow our past practice of making sure students receive lunch if they forget to bring one from home.
Attending RMS Sporting events- Student expectations

14. Respect all officials at all times as the number of officials available is declining. Don't be a reason why an official will not work a Fraser event in the future.
As always, the safety of our staff, students, and families remains our top priority. These additional measures will support our students in making good choices and create a safe environment for all to enjoy the event. We encourage our families and students to take advantage of these athletic events. We can come together with our school community and reconnect with family and friends. To provide the most effective process for entering and exiting Richards Middle School, we need our families consistent help in observing the below traffic expectations:
- Our RMS bus loop is only to be used by emergency vehicles and our district’s school buses between the hours of 7:15 am through 4:00 pm.
- To help with our daily traffic flow, please follow our painted traffic arrows in our parking lot.
- In supporting our traffic flow for entering and exiting for all vehicles, please observe no standing, parking, waiting and stopping in the parking lot aisle ways.
- When exiting Richards Middle School at dismissal time, please utilize either our RMS Garfield exit, FHS Garfield exit or FHS Klein exit.
Please be aware of students, families and guests who are walking in our parking lots by obeying traffic laws, regulating your speed, and following the traffic direction arrows. Images can be found below. Please no parking or standing where you see a red x.
Our district security personnel will communicate these expectations to our families when needed. Thank you for your support with keeping RMS a safe travel area for everyone on campus.
PLEASE BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR ADDITIONAL SIGNS ALONG THE DROP OFF LANE TO HELP DIRECT TRAFFIC FLOW!
Attention students who utilize the crosswalk to walk over Garfield Road
This is a reminder to our students to ensure that you are using the appropriate area to cross the street to get to the other side of Garfield. Please see pictures below for reference of our crosswalk signs and striped area by the Richards Middle School Electronic Board. We want our students to make sure they are looking both ways and being aware of vehicles traveling on Garfield. Always wait to cross this crosswalk when the road is clear to do so.
We thank you for always being aware of your safety and traveling vehicles as you arrive and leave RMS at this crosswalk area.
