Hoyne Happenings Hoyne Happenings

Happy June!

It is safe to say that we have entered the final stretch of the year! These next two weeks are full of celebrations recognizing all the hard work of students, creating memories with our classmates, and gearing up for summer.

Tomorrow, Baldwin Library will be visiting students to tell them more about the summer reading program. This is a great way for students to have a blast reading this summer. Wednesday morning we will have our Senior breakfast for graduating Pembroke alumni. Our current students will help clap them out one final time on Wednesday morning.

Thursday is our field day, please make sure to read the information sent home by Mr. Fulkerson to ensure it is a fun day for all! You can end your week by seeing the Eton Street Singers perform the National Anthem at Jimmy John’s Field on Saturday night!

Have a great week everyone!

Mrs. Hoyne

Gift Crowd - End of Year gifting (optional)

The Pembroke PTA has created a GiftCrowd web page, linked here, where families can make a contribution toward a group gift card for their homeroom and/or specials teachers. Families can click on a teacher’s name, make a contribution via debit/credit card, and write a personal greeting to the teacher.

This gift crowd link will end on Friday, June 13th at 7:30am. At that time, teachers will receive a notification about their gift and will be able to read the greetings. Each teacher will be able to choose how they want to use their gift by redeeming the collected amount into more than 130 types of gift cards, including an option for a Visa gift card.

After School Playground Reminders After School Playground Reminders

As the weather warms up, it is great to see families enjoying the playground after school. We are appreciate your help in reminding your student/s that recess expectations still apply. During this time Kids Club is frequently using the playground as well and having all students follow the same expectations helps keep all students safe and having fun.

We would like to kindly remind everyone that we are a no-animal-on-campus district—a long-standing policy that applies at all times, on all days. While this has been in place for years, we understand it may be an adjustment for some in our community, so we’re partnering with Facilities to add clear signage at playgrounds, athletic areas, and building entrances to help raise awareness. This renewed focus comes in response to a few recent incidents across buildings, and we appreciate your help in supporting a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families. Only district-approved animals—such as service dogs and members of our BPS Canine Comfort Crew—should be on campus. Thank you for your partnership and understanding.

Summer Camp Scholarships Available

There is still time to submit an application for Birmingham Youth Assistance (BYA) 2025 Camp Scholarship Program.

BYA offers camp scholarships to qualified students who either live or attend school within the Birmingham Public School District. BYA has afforded this wonderful, life altering experience to hundreds of young people in our community for over 40 years.

BYA believes that a camp experience provides an opportunity for youngsters to learn many positive life lessons such as character development, self-confidence, socialization, and team building. Parents can select the summer program they would like their child to attend and BYA can provide recommendations.

Check the BYA website for details at www.birminghamyouthassistance.org or email the office at office@birminghamyouthassistance.org.

Sign up for Middle School Robotics! Sign up for Middle School Robotics!

Is your child interested in joining the exciting world of Robotics? Derby and Berkshire Robotics are looking for new members to join their FTC Robotics teams. No previous experience is necessary, and all are welcome. Please carefully read and complete this google form. If there are more applicants than there are spots on the team the coaches will consider applications and make roster decisions before the 2025-2026 school year starts. Registration will close on the last day of school, June 13th.

For incoming and returning Derby Students: We need more robotics coaches in order to run a full team. If we do not have anyone volunteer to coach Derby may not have a Robotics team for next year.
