A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT A NOTE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

April 24, 2026

Dear PUSD Staff and Families,

This week was a busy and meaningful one across our District, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share a few highlights.

Earlier this week, I traveled to Sacramento to meet with state leaders and engage in important conversations about issues impacting public education and Poway Unified. These discussions are important as we continue advocating for our students, staff, and community, and I appreciate the opportunity to represent our District at the state level.

At our Board of Education meeting, several important items were addressed. The Board announced the appointment of our new Associate Superintendent of Learning Support Services, effective July 1, 2026. You can read more about Alison Fieberg here.

The Board also approved a Supplemental Retirement Plan, with more than 200 staff members participating. This will create significant budget savings over the next several years and supports our long-term fiscal stability.

In addition, the Board reviewed the District’s 2026–2029 Technology Plan, focused on system modernization, standardized hardware, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology practices. Staff also shared results from the Student Cell Phone Policy Survey, including proposed grade-span guidance informed by community feedback. Specific policy recommendations will be presented at the May 14 Board meeting.

The Board also approved updates to the meeting schedule, including a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and a revised date for the second June Regular Board Meeting, which has been moved from Thursday, June 18, to Monday, June 15.

You can read more details in this week’s Board Brief.

This week, we also hosted the final event of the school year in our Family Engagement Series. Stronger Together: Preventing Bullying Through Family-School Partnerships brought together district leaders, school staff, parents, and students for a thoughtful conversation about bullying prevention, early intervention, and collaboration. Panelists discussed what bullying looks like today, how schools foster positive and inclusive learning environments, and the important role families and schools play in supporting student safety, accountability, and belonging. A recording of the event is available here.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Poway Unified School District. It is truly a privilege to serve this community.

With gratitude,

Ben

Tierra Bonita Elementary 50th Birthday

Tierra Bonita Elementary Celebrates 50 Years of Learning

On Friday, Tierra Bonita Elementary School marked its 50th birthday, a testament to the incredible history of learning and excellence that has taken place at the school. District and school leaders, alumni, families, and students were all in attendance to celebrate the milestone.

Tierra Bonita's legacy began in 1975, and has seen many changes over the years. As some of the school's former students and staff said Friday, the campus—and surrounding neighborhood—looks very different today compared to when it first opened. But one theme remained constant: Once a Cheetah, always a Cheetah.

Congratulations to TBES on its half-century of fostering our world-class learners! Read more about the celebration on our website.
