Parent Survey for School Improvement - Your Feedback is Requested and Appreciated

Thank you to those of you who have already completed our parent survey for feedback on and improvement for BHS. It is greatly appreciated and we have already begun looking at the information you have provided. If you have not filled it out yet, please see the information below as we would really appreciate your feedback so that we can maximize our potential impact on all of our students and their educational experience.

Our school is currently participating in the Cognia Accreditation Process, which helps us reflect on our practices and continue improving the education we provide to our students. As part of this process, we are asking parents and guardians to complete the following survey: Brighton High School Parent Survey 2025-26.

This survey gives you the opportunity to share your honest feedback about our school’s strengths and areas for growth, especially in the areas of communication, learning experiences, and student support. Your responses can be anonymous and will be combined with feedback from students and staff to help guide school improvement planning as part of the continuous improvement process and ensure we are meeting the needs of our students and families.

We greatly value your input, and your participation plays an important role in shaping the future of our school. Thank you for partnering with us, taking the time to share your voice, and for your continued support as we work to help all of our students grow and achieve their personal best!

Upcoming 9th Grade Class Assembly - Holocaust Survivor Dr. Irene Butter

For planning purposes, we wanted you to have the following information well ahead of time. On Monday, January 12th, we are fortunate enough to be hosting Holocaust survivor Dr. Irene Butter at BHS. She will be sharing her story with all of our 9th grade students during an assembly in the BCPA. The assembly will be taking place during 5th hour. As a result, Freshmen will not be in their 5th hour class on this day. Depending on the length of the Q + A, it may push into 6th Hour as well. DECA Results

On Wednesday, our Brighton High School DECA Team competed at their district competition. This is the first step to competing at the state and national levels. Our students and advisors had an incredibly successful day! Results are provided below by our DECA Advisors Michelle Costa and Ryan Ford:

BHS DECA brought home an impressive total of 118 medals, including 68 State Qualifiers. Their achievement highlights Brighton DECA's commitment to excellence and leadership. We look forward to our next competition at the state level in March.

Digital Safety Reminders for Students

We have seen a few district email addresses, both staff and student, become compromised in the last few weeks. Messages have been sent out requesting students' personal information, as recently as Thursday night. In this most recent circumstance, the suspicious emails were deleted prior to many students having the opportunity to open it due to the diligence of some of our BHS students. Based on this, we wanted to send out a few reminders to help our students protect their accounts and personal information. They are listed below:

To help protect yourself in the future and strengthen your digital literacy:

  • Do not click links or open attachments from unknown or unexpected emails.

  • Check the sender’s email address carefully; look for misspellings or unusual formatting.

  • Be cautious of messages that create urgency or request personal information.

  • Never enter login credentials into a form linked from an email unless you are certain it is legitimate.

  • When in doubt, report the message to a trusted adult or the Tech Department before taking action.

Student Scheduling Information - Starting January 5th

As a reminder, counselors will begin their one on one scheduling meetings with current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders starting on Monday, January 5th. They will be pulling students to meet with them from their English classes and will send them back as soon as they are able to minimize missed class time. The goal is that all students in grades 9 through 11 will be met with by the end of February, with the beginning of March being used to connect with students who were absent during their designated time. Changes can still be made after that point in time, but we want to have an idea of the classes our students are interested in as early as possible so that we can plan accordingly.

Application Course Information

As a reminder, there are certain courses that students have to apply for as opposed to just being able to sign up for them. Students were able to still put them down on their courses selection sheets, but need to fill out the application and be selected in order to be able to formally enroll in the class. These application are available in the Counseling Office and include the following classes:

  • Work Based Learning (Co-Op)
  • Media Publications (Yearbook and Newspaper)
  • Advanced Marketing (School Store)
  • Video Production
  • LINK
  • Education Careers
  • Peer to Peer
  • Out of District CTE Classes
  • Dual Enrollment Classes
  • DEEP Program
  • Leadership (Application NOT in Counseling)

Students should check these applications for deadlines as missed deadlines may be grounds for not getting into these classes if space is limited.

If your student is interested in taking a CTE course offered at another school next year, they should have put the information on their course selection sheet, but also need to fill out an additional application. The application can be found here. Upon completion, the application can be turned in to the Counseling Office.

The locations for each program can be found on the application. As a reminder, these programs are self-transport, so students will need to be able to find their own way to and from these programs in order to be able to enroll in these courses.

Make Up Testing and Attendance Opportunities

We will be resending this information as the dates get closer. However, as we do with most of the student days off that we have, we will be offering students the opportunity to make up assessments as well as attendance on the two Mondays we have off in January (January 19th and 26th). This can be a great help to our students to catch up as the semester ends and with limited Advisory periods in January. Per usual, we will ask students to communicate with their teachers in advance of these dates to make sure any assessments are dropped off by teachers in advance to be taken on these days.

Recent Fentanyl Fathers Presentation for Juniors

On Wednesday, our Juniors attended an impactful assembly by an organization, Fentanyl Fathers, whose mission is to prevent illicit fentanyl poisoning and overdose deaths among America's youth.

You can access their website here, where the following information is shared regarding their approach: "Led by a dedicated group of bereaved parents who have personally experienced the devastating loss of their own children to opioid-related tragedies, Fentanyl Fathers takes a proactive approach to combat this epidemic. We believe that education is the key to prevention, and our focus lies in high school assembly presentations, Naloxone distribution, and trainings in schools."

Tutoring Options at BHS

National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.

In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.

The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.

Where: Brighton High School
Who: Individuals from all career fields welcome!
