Principal's Corner
October 3, 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome Fall and Fall activities! To begin, I would like to remind you that we will still have two full days of regular classes on Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7 before Intersession. Please plan accordingly so your children don't miss instruction.
We have a short month of October but I am excited to announce that instruction is coming along and it is on target. I checked all students' progress reports and grades are reflecting great learning happening at Dr. Green.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
- Fall Intersession days will be on October 8, 9, and 10. If this applies to your child, he/she already received an invitation to attend.
- Fall Break will be from October 13 to 17. During these days all schools and offices in the district will be closed.
- Upon returning from Fall Break, students in grades 3-5 will be taking a reading and math interim STAAR assessment. This test simulates the real STAAR test and provides information to us on the progress of your child in these two subjects. Your teacher will be notifying you of the exact day for reading and for math.
- "Fall Into Reading" -Our Reading Night is coming up on October 22nd from 4-5:30. Please plan to bring your family!
I wish you enjoy your Fall Break. If you travel, please have save travels. If you stay in town, enjoy the city, rest and relax. Students will return from Fall Break on Monday, October 20th.
Thank you for your ongoing support in making Dr. Green a great school to be. Please know that I foster an open-door policy for continuous communication. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with ideas, suggestions or any concerns you may have.
Respectfully,
Guadalupe Pineda

October Calendar
Interventionist Mrs. Sims
Intervention is in full swing. Students who scored 29% or below on their beginning of year MAP test are being pulled and receiving accelerated instruction in Reading and or Math. We are on an A and B schedule. One week I see Math Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Reading Tuesday/Thursday. The next week Reading is Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Math Tuesday/Thursday. I have also been pulling 4th and 5th grade students for HB1416 hours. All students are seen during their WIN time. Reading intervention will consist of M-Class Intervention and IXL skill plans for grades K-3rd. Those students in 4th-5th will have I-Ready Teacher toolbox lessons aligned with class curriculum and IXL student skill plans. Math interventions Kinder-5th will consist of IXL individualized student skill plan and IReady Teacher toolbox lessons.
I recommend bringing your child to intersession if they were identified to be one who would benefit. I recommend students read at least 20 minutes every night. The school or public library is a great place to find reading material that your child is interested in. Reading is so important to your child’s educational success. It is also important for students to practice addition/multiplication facts. Memorizing math facts really helps students to be successful math students. Please let me know if you have any questions. My email is landreas@episd.org. I am super excited to help the students close gaps and gain knowledge.

The Core Essential Value for October is Knowledge- knowing something new so you can be better at whatever you do.
SEE IT:
Organize a family game night. Learn a new card or board game or pull out some family favorites and talk about how strategy comes into play with many games. Another outstanding knowledge game is trivia. Trivia is a fun way to learn new things while admiring how much each family member knows about all kinds of interesting topics. You may want to ask some of these trivia questions to test your knowledge and learn something new:

• https://www.buzzfeed.com/kellyrissman/trivia-questions-for-kids
BE IT:
As a family, pick some topics that you would love to learn more about. See if you can find some trivia questions about these topics or create your own. If you have a quiz or test coming up at school, write some trivia questions about the subject and see if this can help you learn new things and make you better at whatever you want to do. You may have heard the popular quote: “Knowledge is power.” Work together to build your knowledge and your power to do great things.
