Richardson Family Newsletter

November 1st, 2026
No school, Tuesday 11.3 (Conferences)
Greeting Richardson Families,
Our Richardson community knows how to come together—and last Thursday’s Glow Run was a wonderful example! It was amazing to see students running, dancing, and joining in fun challenges, including trying to create the longest conga line! We hope our Penguins rested well Thursday night—we know the staff who participated certainly did! We are elated to have surpassed our $12,000 fundraising goal! For reaching our goal, we will have a free event for families at the Children's Museum on December 3rd!!! Thank you to our families, PTA, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this event a success. See below for more Glow Run updates and celebrations!
Our very own Richardson Penguin mascot joined the Glow Run fun, too! Let’s keep that energy going with three ways to show up for our Penguin community!
1) Register your student for the Glow Run and claim a fun reward! Only 44% of our students are registered at mybooster.com, and there is still time! Every registered student will receive a FREE Great Wolf Lodge water park pass through our Booster partnership. Let’s aim for 100% registered so every student can enjoy this reward! See below for details.
2) Show our Penguin mascot some love! Take a few seconds to vote for Richardson in the Ultimate Mascot Challenge. Let’s get 100% of our families cheering on our mascot! The Elementary Champion will be announced Monday morning and advance to the final competition next week.
3) Make your voice count! Let’s aim for 100% participation from our eligible family voters by voting on or before Tuesday, November 3! Richardson will serve as a polling location on Election Day. See the flyer below and visit 622forward.org/vote for voting information.
We look forward to coming together for conferences this week on Monday and Thursday evening and Tuesday during the day. Conferences give us time to celebrate your child’s growth, hear what you are noticing at home, and plan next steps together. Our Book Fair will be open during conferences, so don't forget to stop by the library. Also, please remember to check out the Lost n Found by the cafe while you are at conferences.
Thank you for the many ways you participate in our school community and support our Penguins.
We really are Better Together!
As always, please feel free to reach out to the main office, Miss Susi, or me anytime with questions, concerns, or suggestions. My contact information is mhoude@isd622.org or 651-748-6910.
Together,
Mrs. Houde (pronounced hood)
Principal
WOW! Our Glow Run was a HUGE success, and we have YOU to thank! Because of your incredible support, we didn't just reach our fundraising goal—we EXCEEDED IT BY 31%! How amazing is that?!
Our students had an absolute blast during the Glow Run, and it was so special to see their excitement and enthusiasm. We want you to be able to relive some of the fun, too! A slideshow featuring photos and videos from the event will be available for you to enjoy during conferences.
And there's even more exciting news! Since our students reached their fundraising goal, they have EARNED A DAY PASS TO THE WATERPARK AT GREAT WOLF LODGE! What an exciting reward for all their hard work! To receive their pass, students must be registered. The pass will be emailed directly to the registered parent's email address. If you haven't registered your student yet, there's still time!
BUT WAIT... WE'RE NOT DONE YET!
We are continuing to accept donations through November 5th! Even though we've surpassed our original goal, we'd love to see just how much more we can raise together. Every additional donation helps us do even more for our amazing students. Whether you can give a little or a lot, every contribution counts!
We are so lucky to have such a generous and supportive community; and we are excited to celebrate with all on of you on December 3rd at the the Children's Museum! Let's keep the momentum going and see what else we can accomplish together!
Richardson Veterans Day Slideshow & Gift Bags
As November approaches, we are preparing to recognize the Veterans who are important to our Richardson families. We are collecting photos of Veterans in our Richardson family for our Veterans Day slideshow. Please email photos to Amber Hinz at ahinz@isd622.org by November 6. If you submitted photos last year, we still have them—there is no need to resend!
Families may also [complete this form] by November 6 to request a gift bag for a Veteran in their family or neighborhood. Students will receive the gift bags on Veterans Day so they can deliver them after school to a Veteran who is important to them.

Last week's Golden Penguin Award winners...
Congratulations to Mrs. Pederson's kindergarten class for winning the Golden Penguin Award. Mrs. Pederson's class has been working hard learning how to be a "penguin". They have been kind to friends by sharing and helping them. They have been respectful when they walk quietly in the halls. They are responsible when they finish their work carefully. They are safe when they sit at the rug and move around the classroom. They have already filled up their star reward jar by showing Pengu9in Pride and will work at filling it up again even faster! Way to go Penguins!!!
Weekly Attendance Tip: Make a Plan for School Success
Small changes now can help build strong attendance habits.
Has getting to school—and/or getting there on time—been challenging?
Why it helps: A simple plan builds predictable routines and gives everyone a shared role in starting the day successfully.
Need support? Reach out to our school social worker. We can work together on a plan that fits your family and helps your child attend regularly, arrive on time, and start the day ready to learn.
Family Science Ideas: Human Body
This month, we’re exploring the human body!
From noticing our breathing to wondering how our fingers move, everyday moments offer opportunities to discover how our bodies work.
WEEK 1 — 💬 Wonder & Talk
Start with a little curiosity! Choose a question to talk about together:
How does your body know when it’s hungry or tired?
What helps your body move?
Why does your heart beat faster when you’re active?
What happens to food after you swallow it?
Try asking: “What do you think—and what makes you think that?” You don’t need to know all the answers. Wondering together is part of being a scientist!
Family Science Tip: Before looking up an answer, give everyone a chance to share their thinking. Sometimes one question leads to several more!
