January 2026
A Message from Mrs. Klaas
We had a great first week back to school in the new year! Both staff and students alike came back l with great excitement, and we wasted no time getting back into routine. In the weeks ahead we will begin our winter benchmarking which is an opportunity to assess students on their reading and math skills. We are excited to look at the growth students have made as well as look at the impact our new math and literacy curriculums are having on student achievement.
There has been a lot of sickness going around, so please encourage your student appropriate hand washing. If your student is sick please keep them home to help us control the spread. This is a difficult time of the year with illness, and we can all do our part to try to keep others healthy.
As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday, January 19th, as we recognize Martin Luther King Day. We wish you a happy and healthy 2026!
What a fun December we had!

FES will welcome Officer Sara Kamm in January to deliver K–5 DARE lessons focused on refusal skills and making positive choices. In the same month, Officer Kamm and Detective Shady from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office will speak with students in grades 3–5 about social media safety.
I also wanted to share a helpful resource I found for keeping children safe online: Digital Connection-Identifying Hidden Risks!
Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. I appreciate your partnership in keeping our students safe and informed.

Ronald McDonald Pull Tab Program
Farley Elementary 4th and 5th graders, along with their families, are invited to participate in the Ronald McDonald Pull Tab Program. Students may collect pull tabs from aluminum cans and containers. Pull tabs are easy to collect and provide a valuable donation to the Ronald McDonald House. The collection will begin on November 10 and will run through the month of February. Students may bring their pull tabs to school at any time to donate in their classroom.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa have a mission to provide services to improve the health and well-being of children while offering a community of comfort and support for families seeking medical care for a child. Participating in the Pull Tab Program will help fund and provide a "home-away-from-home" for more than 400 families each year.
Thank you for your involvement and support in helping others!
