MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Franklin Students and Families,
Happy New Year! It’s so good to see students and staff fill the halls with smiles ready to engage socially and academically. This is the time of year when we begin to think about next year. Today we launched the forecasting season with the forecast fair held this morning. Students attended short presentations about classes they are interested in taking next year. Counselors will begin to meet with students to discuss the process. Meetings with 9th graders will be in physics classes, 10th and 11th graders will attend assemblies in the auditorium next week on Friday. The 10th grade assembly is at 11:00am and the 11th grade assembly is at 1:05pm. Families can learn more about the forecasting process here and at the upcoming PTSA meeting on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:30pm in the library. We hope you can make it!
Next week is the last week before finals. You can view the finals schedule on Trivory as you prepare for final exams, projects, and presentations.
I’d like to conclude my message this week with an acknowledgement of how both domestic and international incidents have impacted us all. The recent tragic events may leave us all feeling frustrated, scared, worried, and overwhelmed. I echo the words of our superintendent, Dr. Armstrong, when she states, “Our schools remain open, and our commitment is steady: to provide environments where students feel safe, supported, and cared for, academically and emotionally. We continue to follow established safety protocols and remain in close coordination with local partners. In times like these, community matters deeply. Staying connected, checking in with one another, and allowing space for conversation and care can make a meaningful difference, for children and adults alike.” You can read her entire message here.
Please contact me or any staff member with questions or concerns. We are here to help and support.
Thank you,
Dr. Z

Immunization Reminder from Nurse Katie
This is a friendly reminder that vaccines (or signed exemptions) are required for your student to be in school! Exclusion date is Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. Winter break is coming up and that is a great time to call your students' doctors and get them in for a visit if they are due. Our Student Based Health Center is a great resource as well. I will be reaching out in the next couple of weeks to families who are in need of immunizations. Feel free to reach out to me (ksimeon@pps.net) if you have any questions or concerns!

PTSA NEWS
NEW: Call for Entries: Oregon PTA “I Belong” Art Exhibit
Oregon PTA is celebrating the art, identity, and belonging of all children and teens across Oregon. K–12 students statewide are invited to submit original artwork for a special exhibition at the 2026 Oregon PTA Convention, taking place in April in Clackamas.
Educator Spotlight
At every PTSA meeting, two FHS staff members will be honored and receive a small gift of appreciation. All FHS staff are eligible to be nominated (teachers, administrators, office staff, paraeducators, custodial & cafeteria staff, nurses, you name it!). We encourage students, parents and staff to nominate any member of the FHS staff who they feel deserves special recognition. We love our FHS Staff!
ATHLETICS

PIL Spectator Policy
We are excited to kick off the Winter Sports Season . Below are a few reminders for our spectators for this upcoming season.
No Large Bags: At no time are large bags/backpacks allowed inside the facility while attending events on PPS property. This rule does not apply at park fields. Some school sites will be able to offer a bag check, while others, due to site location and other factors will not. Please be prepared for both options as you travel through league games this year. In the preseason, many other conferences also have this policy and without a bag check option.
Admission: We will be charging admission for wrestling, along with boys and girls basketball. We will start charging one hour before the varsity contest. Middle school and elementary school students will not be admitted without a parent or guardian
- Wrestling Ticket Prices: Adults $7, Students $5
- Boys and Girls Basketball Ticket Prices: Adults $7, Students $5
- Swim: No Charge
PIL Winter Sports Pass: Gofan.com
No Outside Food: Outside food or drink will not be allowed at our athletic contests. Some sites will have
concession stands open for food purchases.
No Re-Entry: Once a person enters the game, we are not allowing anyone to leave the event and return.
This policy is for both students and adults.
Spectator Conduct: It is of the utmost importance that we conduct with the highest level of
sportsmanship towards visiting schools, athletes, fans, and officials. The PIL is seeking to provide the best experience possible for everyone that attends our athletic contests. What makes these events fun and enriches those participating is when all of us do our part regardless of the outcome. Should any concerns arise, please seek out event workers, administration, or security personnel to help resolve any concerns. We appreciate your support in advance when attending athletic events.
We are looking forward to seeing you in the stands this year!
