Hello Clipper Families

It has been great to have our students and staff back in school. Over the first 2 days, students met with each of their teachers, took school pictures, and participated in grade level assemblies. Overall, I was impressed by the energy of our students and I'm looking forward to upcoming activities that will be happening throughout the fall.

Below, I have provided a link to the school picture information, as well as the student assembly presentation, for your reference. A main theme for us here at NHS continues to be developing a “growth mindset” and supporting students as they work to develop their own story.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT will take place Wednesday, September 16th. This will begin with a presentation in the auditorium at 5:30 PM by the high school administrative team, and starting at 6:00 PM, parents and guardians will follow their student’s schedules.

SCHOOL YEAR FOCUS - OPENING DAYS

Students participated in lessons and activities throughout the week designed to build strong learning communities in their classrooms. Throughout the year, our teachers will continue to create learning experiences that Connect, Engage, and Challenge students while helping them take greater ownership of their learning.

Last year, we engaged students in a schoolwide dialogue to better understand what they believe makes for powerful learning experiences. This year, we will build on that work by providing frequent opportunities for students to reflect on their learning, recognize their growth and challenges, and connect what they are learning to their future. Over time, these reflections will become part of a student portfolio, helping each student recognize the connections across their learning experiences and ultimately communicate the story of who they are, how they have grown, and where they are going.

VOLUNTEER AT THE SNACK SHACK – A GREAT WAY TO MEET OTHER PARENTS

The Newburyport All-Sports Boosters are looking for volunteers for the Snack Shack for the fall sports season. The Snack Shack will be open for home varsity football games, the ALS Cup soccer games, and the Play4theCure field hockey game. A minimum of 10 volunteers are needed for each game, and volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

WAY TO GO MUSIC PROGRAM

On Monday, the NPS faculty and staff were welcomed back with performances from our band and members of our chorus. It has been inspiring to see these programs grow in recent years, and the students and teachers continue to bring great energy to every performance. I look forward to all they’ll share with us throughout the school year.

FALL ENDICOTT COLLEGE DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSE

HLS205-America’s Intelligence Community

This course will provide students a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) and the issues associated with national intelligence operations in free societies. The course explores the role intelligence plays in America’s homeland security, national defense and policy strategies. Core intelligence issues and intelligence-related laws and policy are examined.

Semester: Fall 2026
Dates: 10/21–12/18 (asynchronous)
Registration: Registration information will be shared by Mrs. Phelps

Reminder: This is a Dual Enrollment course which means students taking the class earn high school and college credits. Thanks to the support of the Newburyport Education Foundation, students only need to pay for the cost of books.
