Welcome Back Mustangs! Welcome Back Mustangs!

Dear Marquardt Middle School Families,

We hope all have enjoyed the summer break. We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school in just a few days. We know that there may be feelings of nervousness and/or excitement. Whatever you or your child may be experiencing, it is all normal and we as a Marquardt staff are here to help transition all of our families back to school.

Some things that can definitely help with the start of the school year is getting everyone back on a good schedule. Summer is typically filled with late nights and sleeping into the late morning! School days are long and if students are not fully rested, they will seem even longer. Now is the time to start getting everyone back into a normal routine. Start going to bed earlier each night and waking up earlier each morning. If you do that now, by the time August 13th roles around, you will be ready for school!

Whether you are a returning 7th or 8th grader, or you are a brand new 6th, 7th or 8th grade student, we can wait to welcome you back to school! We are looking to a great school year!

Let’s Go Mustangs!

First Day of School - Wednesday, August 13th First Day of School - Wednesday, August 13th

This will be a FULL day of attendance. School will begin at 7:45 a.m. and will dismiss at 2:45 p.m. Please note breakfast will not be served on the first day of school.

First Day Orientation

As we return to school, we will plan to have the first day of school to be an orientation for all students. On this day, students will engage in team building activities, learn about lockers, understand their schedule, tour the building, and much more.

Attendance Attendance

Attendance

The success of students depends on their ability to attend school. We expect that our students will attend school every day unless they are sick. It is vital to the academic and social-emotional success of our students that they are present each day at school.

Please try to arrange any appointments outside of school hours so that students can focus on their learning and not fall behind due to absences. Please note that students who are not in attendance can not participate in after-school activities.

PowerSchool PowerSchool

Parents all have access to PowerSchool as this is the program that was used for registration. We want to make sure that our parents are involved in our students education and monitoring your students' progress through PowerSchool is one way for parents to see what is happening with their student. Parents should regularly check PowerSchool to track students progress, grades, and attendance. If you plan to download the app, you will need the code DHJG to connect to Marquardt Middle School.

You can find a link for PowerSchool on the school website.

School Supplies School Supplies

Please visit this link to find the school supplies that each student should be bringing with them on the first day of school. The District and School staffs work very hard to minimize the amount of supplies that are needed for families to provide, but this is extremely important for the success of our students. Thank you for your cooperation in this.

Please make sure all students, 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels bring 3 Dozen #2 Pencils. There was an error on the supply list. Thank you.

At Marquardt Middle School, we want to ensure that the learning environment is one where our students can be focused and not distracted by outside forces. It is our policy and expectation that our students power off and store their cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and headphones in the lockers during school days.

We thank you for your cooperation.

Student Arrival Student Arrival

No child can be at school prior to 7:30, which is when supervision starts, unless they are enrolled in a zero-hour class (band, orchestra, or choir). Zero-hour students will enter the building at 7:00 and zero-hour classes will begin at 7:08am. Additional information regarding zero-hour and bus route information will be coming out in a separate newsletter.

Bus riders are dropped off in the center bus lane. No car traffic is ever allowed in the center drive before or after school due to bus traffic. This is a student safety issue. 6th graders who are dropped off by parents in the morning should be dropped off in front of the building on the 6th grade side and will walk around to the side to enter the building. 7th and 8th graders dropped off by parents will enter at the northeast end of campus and enter through the appropriate doors. Please see the attached map for a visual.

Looking to join a sport this fall season? Tryouts and informational meetings will be held in the next few weeks! Please make sure your students are listening to the daily announcements for more information.

Any student who is interested in participating in any athletic sports this year, must have a Sport Physical on file with the Health office. Sport Physicals are not the same as school physicals, so please make sure you are specific when speaking with your physicians. Please make your childs appointments as soon as possible. They will not be able to tryout for teams without a physical on file. If you have questions about your child’s physical, please contact our school nurse Carolina Risolvo at crisolvo@d15.us.

MMS Dress Code MMS Dress Code

According to our Parent Student Handbook, students are expected to wear clothing in a neat, clean, and well-fitting manner while on school property and/or in attendance at school-sponsored activities. We ask students to refrain from wearing pajamas, hats, hoods, and bandanas while at school. We also ask that students wear items that do not contain inappropriate images or text, such as alcohol or weapons. Clothing with holes, rips, tears, and clothing that is otherwise poorly fitting, showing skin and/or undergarments, may not be worn at school. The length of shorts or skirts must be appropriate for the school environment. A great rule of thumb is that shoulders to mid-thigh to be covered. Please see the Parent Student Handbook for more details.
