Board Spotlight Board Spotlight

The Board of Education recognized WCPS School Bus Driver, Tammy Lewis, for her quick and heroic actions to protect the lives of 21 Grantham Elementary students during an afternoon route. Essentially, after catching a whiff of a burning electrical odor, Ms. Lewis immediately became concerned and her bus driver training kicked in. Ms. Lewis stopped the bus and evacuated the 21 students who were on board. With smoke becoming visible, Ms. Lewis moved the students more than 200 yards away to a safe distance. What is believed to have begun as an electrical issue inside an electrical panel quickly turned into a serious fire that engulfed the entire bus with flames.
