Welcome Back! We Missed You!

Dear Dorr Families,

We had an amazing first week welcoming our students back to Dorr Elementary! It has been wonderful to see our classrooms filled with excitement, learning, and connections.

As a Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School, one of our earliest priorities, and a focus we carry throughout the entire school year, is building strong relationships with our students and families while helping students foster meaningful connections with their peers. We believe that when students feel connected, valued, and supported, they are better prepared to learn and grow.

Our students are off to a fantastic start as they learn and practice our classroom and building-wide rules and expectations. We are also spending time learning what it means to follow our 3 B’s: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

Students also took an important step in building their classroom communities by creating a Classroom Social Contract. Students worked together to identify and commit to the norms and behaviors they believe will help create a positive, supportive, and successful classroom environment throughout the school year.

We encourage families to help bridge the connection between school and home by talking with your student about our 3 B’s and asking them about their Classroom Social Contract. Ask them what each of the 3 B’s means to them and what they can do to help make their classroom a place where everyone feels respected, responsible, safe, and connected.

Thank you for helping us make the start of this school year so special. We are excited for all that is ahead!

In partnership,
Andrew Augustin
Principal, Dorr Elementary

Daily Schedule

Our school day runs from 8:50am- 3:50pm daily. Half days run from 8:50am-11:50am. Students are expected to be in their classrooms ready to learn at 8:50am.

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Drop off and pick up are the most chaotic and sometimes dangerous times for a school. Your child's safety is our top priority. Below you will find our morning drop off and our afternoon pick up procedures. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these procedures to make the first day of school a positive experience from start to finish!

As the map shows above, please form a single file line for student drop off. Parents are asked to only allow their student to exit the vehicle once they have reached the staff member located in the area of the yellow star. Please use the time waiting in line to make sure your student is prepared to exit your vehicle once you reach the unloading area. Once your child exits the car, please follow the car in front of you to exit the parking lot. Please do not pull out and around others as this may slow the flow of traffic.

Once parents have dropped off their student, the student will be greeted by an adult and directed to the door. There they will be given assistance, if needed, to find their classroom.

Students will report to the designated pick up area at the end of the day. Please form a single file line outside the pick up door and wait for your student. When you reach the front of the line please LEGIBLY sign your student out on the clip board and give the staff member your students FIRST name and their TEACHERS name. This is how we dismiss students.

During the first few weeks of school, or anytime staff does not recognize the adult picking up, please be aware that staff may ask for a photo ID before releasing your student to you. We will only release students to adults listed and approved on the Parent Portal. This is for the safety and security of our students. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated.

Hug Zone

New this year is our Hug Zone! After Labor Day, we will be starting our new hug zone procedure. This new process helps us maintain safety and security, while allowing your child to build confidence and independence. Starting on Tuesday September 8th, only students may enter through Door 14. If you have a meeting with a teacher pre-scheduled, need to bring in items for your student, or if your student needs additional support, please sign in at the front vestibule. Thank you for supporting our building's and district's safety and security as well as working with us to foster student's confidence and independence.

Hello Dorr families,

I'm so excited to share another year of music with you! Two things to start you off for the year....one, I love outdoor activities and often chat with the students about my adventures. Please send a picture of a fish your child caught and I will put it on the bulletin board outside my classroom for all to enjoy. Two, our third grade concert will be March 31, 2027. Please put it on your calendar! My email is the easiest way to reach me if the need arises. I'm looking forward to another great year!!!
