September 26, 2025 Principal's Message
Hello Blevins Families,
I'd like to start this message by explaining October Count. Your child's regular attendance at school is always important, though it is especially critical on Wednesday, October 1. This day is Colorado's official "October Count Day", the date used by the state to determine enrollment and the amount of per-pupil funding each district and school receives.
The full October Count window runs from September 24 - October 8 and we encourage families to prioritize attendance every day during this period. Of course, if your child is ill or has an important family commitment, please follow normal attendance procedures.
Thank you for supporting your child's learning and helping ensure our school receives the funding needed to serve every student!
One more note, I made a mistake in my Principal's Message last week. Our student-led conferences will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 16, 3-6:30pm each evening. I stated the incorrect days of the week in my previous communication. Sorry for any confusion!
Thanks for your continuous support of Blevins and have a wonderful weekend.
Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Science Olympiad Returns to Blevins
We’re excited to announce that Science Olympiad is back at Blevins! Our school has a proud tradition with this nationally recognized program, having earned many local, state, and even national awards over the years. Science Olympiad is a competitive science club where students explore STEM through teamwork, challenges, and problem-solving.
Meetings will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30–3:30 p.m. in Mutter’s room (249).
Students already signed up for Bruins Club may attend Science Olympiad during that time.
Students not in Bruins Club may either join Bruins Club (permission slip required) or arrange for pick-up at 3:30.
Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 30, right after school.
Questions? Reach out to Kristi Mutter for more details (kmutter@psdschools.org)
Bruin Club
We had an amazing second week in Bruin Club, with nearly 60 students joining us after school each day! This week, students explored new worlds in Minecraft Education, made their own homemade pizzas, and designed water filtration systems in Engineering Exploration. We also welcomed parents and guardians to Blevins on Monday evening to learn about supporting their students from our incredible counseling team and PSD central staff.
If your student would like to be part of the fun, please make sure we have a completed 2025–2026 Permission to Participate form on file. Forms are available in the front office and must be submitted at least 24 hours before a student can attend.
