Garden Questions 04/26/2022 @Richard J. Lee Elementary

🤔 Garden Questions?

What do you wonder about in the garden? The video shows examples made by the learners in the Design & Create classes. If you have any questions, please post them on the Media Album "Garden Questions" in the Lee Garden Folder on Schoology. Any questions are welcome!

Multiple learners wondered about what makes the colors of flowers and fruits. How can we search for this question? Do you have any ideas? Please post your ideas, thoughts, or answers on the Discussion Board "What makes the colors of flowers and fruits?" on Schoology. Let's dig deep into this wonder!

Green onion flowers. It captures many learners' eyes.

I bought green onions at a grocery store, cut the green part, and planted the remaining white part with roots last fall. They survived through the harsh winter weather and are flowering now.

Larkspur has different colors, purple, blue, pink, and white. Good contrast with white cilantro flowers. Beautiful shot, Diya!

🐛 Habitat Name for Monarch Waystation

Our Leadership Council approved applying for the Monarch Waystation Registration by Monarch Watch to get a certificate and a sign for our existing flower garden. It will help raise public awareness of Monarch conservation.

We need a Habitat Name for our garden to register. What name would be great for our garden? Be creative! Please post your idea on the Media Album "Monarch Habitat Name" on Schoology! We will take a vote to select one.

To learn about Monarchs, go to Schoology > Lee Elementary: All students (Yellow Icon) > Lee Garden > Monarch Folder.

Monarch Caterpillar eating Milkweed @RJL Flower Garden

A Monarch caterpillar was munching on milkweed in our flower garden on May 7th. Let's find chrysalis! Please don't touch it if you find it.

🍹 Planting, Harvesting & Green Smoothies

We planted peppers and had many harvests, such as beets, radishes, lettuces, spinach, kale, Asian greens, tomatoes, squash, and more! They were served in the salad bar in the cafeteria.

In the sustainability project in Design & Create classes, we made green smoothies from our garden harvest and tasted them! Thank you to Mrs. Shaner for bringing the frozen bananas!
