Child Tax Credit Information

Dear Parents,

This year, the US government is providing up to $3,600 per child to parents and caretakers, yet many families in the Vista Unified School District may miss out on collecting the full benefit.

On behalf of researchers at UC San Diego, the district is inviting you to participate in a short survey about this new child benefit. Through this survey, you may learn that you are eligible for the new child benefit, and you may also be eligible for free assistance to collect the benefit. This free assistance will be provided to many eligible families by the UCSD research team and its partner, a local non-profit organization. The assistance is valuable because to obtain the full benefit, known as the Child Tax Credit, families will need to file an income tax return in winter 2022.

This survey is being sent to all families in the district. It should take no more than 7 minutes to complete. Individual answers will not be shared with anyone at the district or your child’s school, and will only be viewable by the research team. Please consider taking this survey as Vista Unified wants to see all of its families receiving the income supports that the government is providing! The survey is available in English and Spanish.

Sincerely,

Matt Doyle, Ed.D.

ELPAC Testing

The Speaking part of the ELPAC, the annual assessment for all English learners, will be given on Wednesday, February 9, Thursday, February 10, and Friday, February 11.

District testers will be onsite in the library to test each student one on one. English learners will be called from their classes throughout the day to take the speaking test, which takes approximately 25 minutes per student.

School Accountability Reports (SARC)

State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.

The SARC contains all of the following:

  • Demographic data
  • School safety and climate for learning information
  • Academic data
  • School completion rates
  • Class sizes
  • Teacher and staff information
  • Curriculum and instruction descriptions
  • Postsecondary preparation information
  • Fiscal and expenditure data

The Importance of Community Engagement

The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
