Inside Scoop
Hockinson High School - 2026-2027
August 28, 2026
Hello, Hawks:
What a great first week of school! Thank you for bringing such great positive energy.
This week, we held our annual Fall Class Meetings to celebrate our students, set expectations for the school year, and share key reminders for remaining involved and successful at school. At the center of all we do is the love we have for all of our students. All of our expectations are centered around helping every student succeed, feel a sense of belonging, and overcome self-limiting beliefs or obstacles. As I expressed, you are loved and there is nothing you can do about it. Hockinson High School is a special place because of all of us in it.
Speaking of special, how about two years in a row of being named a US News Top High School in the Nation?

Focus Policy
This one is easy! It's No Fly Focus...every day.
We love seeing our students connect with teachers, but during Focus period, we follow one very strict, supernatural law - The Vampire Rule.
Much like the creatures of the night, students cannot enter another teacher's classroom during Focus unless they have been formally invited with a pre-arranged pass.
Why the rule? Focus is meant to be a high-value time for academic support, catch-up, targeted instruction, and to make up assessments. Hallway travel without a destination creates distractions for everyone.
How it works: If a teacher needs to see you, they’ll issue a pass. Otherwise, your default location for Focus is where you belong for the duration.
PS - This is the one instructional period of the day that you get to use your phone - unless we've got HSBP, you're taking a test, or your teacher tells you no phones during Focus!
Tech Platform Changes
Hockinson School District will be updating some of our educational technology platforms for students and parents. We want to share what you can expect and where to find information beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Read more here.

Senior Off-Campus Pass Information
Hockinson High School is launching our program allowing seniors to leave campus for lunch once a month. This initiative rewards students, supports local businesses, and builds time management and responsibility.
Key Details & Requirements:
Eligibility: Seniors on track to graduate with good attendance (0 unexcused absences, no more than 3 tardies in the issuance month).
Mandatory Permission Slip: Parents/guardians must opt-in. No signed form = no pass. Forms require signatures from both the parent/guardian and the student.
Accountability: Returning late results in losing the pass for the following month. Off-campus privileges will be revoked for the entire year for drug/alcohol/vape violations or for transporting non-qualifying students off campus.
Note: This is a trial project. Future frequency or full continuation of the program depends on student compliance and community feedback.
Athletics Information
Some reminders from Class Meetings:
🏆 Extracurricular Reminders & Academic Eligibility
Participation in athletics, theatre, band, and clubs is a privilege, and we encourage all students to get involved! To remain eligible:
Attendance: Students must attend all classes on a given day to participate in after-school events or practices. If a student has a doctor's appointment during the day, they must return to school with an official doctor’s note to be cleared for practice or activities.
Academic Standards: Students must be enrolled full-time, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, and have no more than one failing grade. Grade checks will take place every 3–4 weeks throughout each season.
🤝 Extracurricular Code of Conduct
We expect our student participants to hold themselves to the highest standards across three key areas:
Classroom: Arrive on time, stay in class, maintain passing grades, respect teachers and peers, and take responsibility for missed work during early dismissals for travel.
Practice: Arrive on time, follow directions, respect teammates, and care for equipment and facilities.
Games & Travel: Follow school rules during transport, represent our high school positively, and show respect to officials, opponents, and host facilities.
