One Purpose. Your Pathway. Our Promise.

Dear Lewiston-Porter PEC Families,

Our students are excited to share their Leader in Me portfolios with you at home. This year, as a next step in our Leader in Me journey, we are moving forward with Family Portfolio Shares, which will take place the week of March 9-March 13, 2026. This home to school connection builds student ownership, leadership, and reflection while creating meaningful home–school connections.

Please use the prompts provided to discuss your child’s portfolio, fill out the reflection sheet, and return both the reflection sheet and the portfolio back to school by Thursday, March 12. Thank you in advance! This is a “work in progress” and we will continue adding to it until we share our completed portfolio with you at the end of the school year.

This is a wonderful opportunity for students to take an active role in reflecting on their learning, sharing their progress, and setting future goals. Please find a quiet space where you can both enjoy and reflect on the artifacts in the portfolio.

The portfolio is organized into five sections;

My Self

My WIGs (which stands for Wildly Important Goals),

My Learning

My Leadership

My Celebrations

Included in the portfolio is our school-wide goal tracking sheet. Our school-wide goal is KINDNESS everywhere we travel. You can see that there are several places we will be focusing on our WIG as our students reflect on ways to be kind in our lives.

As you and your child prepare to complete the reflection, we encourage your child to “show off” their work and to think about how there may be something to improve upon in the last trimester as they prepare for the next grade! Thank you once again for your continued support and engagement in your child’s educational journey.

Respectfully yours,

Mrs. Tamara Larson

Our10th annual One District, One Book Family Reading Adventure is underway! Students were on the edge of their seats at both our Community Reveal on Thursday, February 12th (300 in attendance) and our In School Reveals at both the PEC and IEC on Friday, February 13th. We were excited to learn we met our year 10 goal of OVER 1,000 VOTES…with a total of 1,119! Our students received their very own copy of the book, an exclusive bookmark which links them to our online resources, and a parent packet. The parent packet included a reading schedule, family questions and activities, and the list of our community business partners! Tune in on Fridays to find out trivia and masked reader winners, the next week’s community scavenger hunt host, the weekly trivia question, and to hear about both our masked readers and guest readers. It is never too late to start reading this exciting adventure! We will be celebrating our reading accomplishments at our Family Night on Friday, March 20th. Students and their families will join together at the IEC to celebrate in true Lemoncello style! Stay tuned to Seesaw (PEC), Google Classroom, and Blackboard (IEC) for details and registration. Happy Reading!

On February 6th the Lewiston Porter PTSA , along with Key Club volunteers, sponsored the 4th annual “My Special Persons” night at the Primary Education Center. Students in PreK-Grade 2 were invited to choose a special adult to share in festivities. Parents, grandparents, and family friends were all in attendance at the event. Our DJ kept students and adults dancing all night. Families and friends spent quality time working on crafts, getting pictures together and eating cookies.

Our balloon artist was a hit, twisting multiple balloons into gorgeous creations.

200 students were dressed in beautiful dresses and handsome formal wear to celebrate the pre Valentines evening.

A special thank you to Favorites Pizza for their donation.

David returned from using the bathroom and said he was a little longer in there because there were 10 paper towels on the floor in the bathroom and soap squirted around. He said that he cleaned it all up so no one would slip and get hurt. He showed he was a leader and was proactive so no one got hurt

Lilly practices "Be Proactive and Think Win, Win"

At lunch during the school store, one of Lilly's classmates was sad because she forgot it was school store day and wasn't able to purchase anything. Lilly noticed that her friend was upset, and offered her to play with what she bought at the store. Lilly was so kind to do this and it really made her friend feel included. Thank you for always being so kind, Lilly!

Tips From Nurse Katie Tips From Nurse Katie

User uploaded image

Many parents ask, “When is my child sick enough to stay home from school?”

This is not always an easy question to answer! We hope that these tips can help!

A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. We suggest making a plan for childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a comforting place for your child to stay if he/she is ill.

Please do not send your child to school if he/she has:

- Fever (100.0 or higher) in the past 72 hours (Must be fever free without medication)

- Vomiting in the past 24 hours

- Diarrhea in the past 24 hours

- Chills

- Sore throat

- Strep Throat (must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school)

- Pink Eye – redness, itching & drainage of the eye(s)

- Bad cold, with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night

- COVID - follow CDC recommendations. See the Lew-Port website.

- Head lice – until your child has been treated according to the nurse or doctor’s instructions

If your child becomes ill at school and the school nurse evaluates that the child is too sick to benefit from school or is contagious to other children, you will be called to pick-up the child from school. It is essential that your child’s school have a phone number where you can be contacted during the day and an emergency number in the event you cannot be reached. Please be sure that arrangements can be made to transport your child home from school and that childcare is available in case of illness. If your daytime or emergency phone number changes during the year, please notify your child’s teacher immediately.

Please call the school’s Health Office if you have any questions or concerns.

Student Appearance Code Student Appearance Code

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map Show in original size

It is that time of the year where we are all hoping that the groundhog was wrong and that spring weather will soon be upon us. It is a good time to review our student appearance code with families. Staff members are required to send any violations of this code to their building administrators for review as they act as the final authority on these matters. Students who violate the student appearance code will meet with the building principal or designee to discuss modification of their appearance. Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject to accountability and restorative practices as outlined in the Code of Conduct.

All students are expected to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to dress appropriately for school and school functions. Students and their parents have the primary responsibility for acceptable student dress and appearance. Teachers and all other District personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress and help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance in the school setting. The school setting is defined as both in-person and online or virtual learning experiences. A student's dress, grooming, and appearance, including hair style/color, jewelry, make-up, nails, body piercings, and tattoos, shall:

1. Be safe, and appropriate, and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process.

2. Recognize that extremely brief and see-through garments are not appropriate.

3. Ensure that underwear is completely covered with outer clothing.

4. Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed.

5. Not include the wearing of hats and headgear (including hoods) in the classroom except for a medical or religious purpose.

6. Not include items that are vulgar, obscene, provocative, libelous, or that denigrate others on account of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

7. Not promote and/or endorse the use of alcohol, tobacco, vaping or illegal drugs and/or encourage other illegal or violent activities.

March is Music in Our Schools Month!

What is MIOSM®?

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music.

Music class exposes the child to challenges and multi-sensory experiences which enhance learning abilities and encourage cognitive development. In particular, music can also engage cognitive functions, such as planning, working memory, inhibition, and flexibility. These functions are known as executive functions (EF).

Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills

A study at the University of Southern California's Brain and Creativity Institute found that musical experiences in childhood can actually accelerate brain development, particularly in the areas of language acquisition and reading skills.

New Drums in Music

Students are excited about a new addition to the PEC. We have a small set of Drums Alive drums! These large ball-style bucket drums are played with drumsticks, and the students are loving the hands-on experience.

Drumming helps build rhythm and timing, improves coordination and motor skills, strengthens listening and focus, and boosts confidence. Best of all, it makes learning music active, fun, and engaging!

Black History Month Black History Month

The first grade team celebrated Black History month with a traditional family project. Students chose a famous African-American and created a representation of that person. These sculptures are on display in the PEC front foyer. Everyday these sculptures create a storyboard that begin conversations for our whole student body. Thank you First Grade Families!
