Growing Together @ STL

While it was a snowy welcome back, there was great energy on Monday as everyone was back together again! It was beautiful to have the halls fill with laughter, joy and connection! Students were also welcomed by several snowmen at the front of the school, built lovingly by my teenage niece and nephew!

Nothing like making an announcement that you made "brownies" for the whole school...and then delivering the "brown-Eees" later that day! Some students laughed with me, others were mad they weren't getting real brownies!

The other April Fool's joke was the announcement that we were moving to uniforms next year! The new uniforms would include purple pants to match our school colours, with white collared short and long sleeved shirts with our school logo as a crest. I shared there would be samples available the next day to try on for size!

That announcement caused quite a kerfuffle...One class even began to write a petition!

We adore it when students come to the office and share their learning with us!

These two students were so proud to share all of the information they have learned about India, and share how Canada is similar as well as uniquely different to India.

This week we introduced Uno Flip in Games Club. And of course, we need to try the game out! Thanks to one of our helpers who tested the game with me!

Thank you to this amazing group of students who stayed back after Games Club and helped to clean up. When they were finished cleaning up their games, instead of leaving, they went directly to another group and helped them clean up their game! Wow! Beautiful Servant Leadership!

As a Lenten Alms Giving opportunity during Holy Week, STL will have a Break the Rules Day on May 15 to raise money for Lurana House! Each rule will cost $2 to break. Students and Staff can break as many as they like! There are even some extra incentives to break more rules! Check it out!

Thank you in advance for supporting Lurana House through our Break the Rules Day! All funds collected will be directly donated to Lurana House!

Playing an intense game of Roche, Papier, Ciseaux. They can even level up!

On May 30th, Grade 5-8 students will have the opportunity to learn from active pilots and aviation instructors, visit our neighbour, the South Cooking Lake Airport, test their flight skills on the simulator and so much more!

We are truly blessed to be starting this partnership to provide our St. Luke Catholic School students with diverse learning opportunities through community partnerships!

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will have the opportunity to play in part of the forest at recess! This past week we went through the rules to play safely in the forest and teachers will review them with their students before forest play begins on Tuesday. Thank you for reviewing these rules with your children.

• Stay on the school-side of the ribboned trees. Leave the ribbons on the trees. Supervisors need to be able to see students playing in the forest.

• Gentle play with sticks. No using them as weapons or even pretending.

• Care for God’s trees. Play with sticks from the ground only. Do not remove branches from trees.

• Forest play available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• Now that you know the rules, breaking them is a choice.

• STL Team reserves the right to include additional safety expectations in the future.

As we start our Games Club up again, a renewed call for Chess Boards is coming from the kids! There are more of them who want to learn to play, and challenge each other.

If you have a chess game that is gathering dust....we will put it to good use!

We are excited to announce that South Cooking Lake Greenhouses is once again supporting our school with their Spring Fundraiser. A portion of all gift certificates purchased will directly benefit St. Luke Catholic School, supporting student enrichment programs!

For Ages 4-12

Strathcona County RCMP Community Policing Unit (CPU) is hosting an Easter colouring contest for youth between the ages of 4 and 12.

To participate:

Download and print a colouring sheet for your child or classroom. Ask them to colour in the egg with their vision of community policing. Drop off the completed colouring sheet at 911 Bison Way before 5 p.m. on April 14, 2025. Strathcona County RCMP CPU officers will then review the entries and select the winners. One winner from each age category will be selected (ages 4 to 8 and ages 9 to 12).

The Strathcona County RCMP Easter Colouring Contest is open April 1 to 14, 2025. Entries must be submitted before 5 p.m. on April 14, 2025.
