Superintendent's Message
Dear Families,
October brings not only cooler days and colorful leaves, but also a chance to pause and celebrate the great start to our school year! We've had many changes this year, from new faces to new drop-off/pick-up processes. On behalf of our staff and administration, I would like to extend our sincere thanks to our families for their support.
October also brings the opportunity to meet your student's teacher(s), if you haven't already done so. I encourage all families to participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 30th, in the afternoon/evening (following early dismissal), and on October 31st, from 8 am to 12 pm. Parent-Teacher Conferences are a valuable opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring that students receive the support they need to grow academically and personally. Please check your school’s schedule for sign-up details. Your involvement is an essential part of your child’s success.
Later this month, the Illinois School Report Card will be released, and we will be sharing the highlights that reflect the hard work and accomplishments of our students and staff. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being active partners in our school community. Together, we can ensure every student feels supported and inspired to reach their full potential.
Forward Together,
Dr. Tracy Thurwanger
Superintendent

PreK-3rd Grade Parent Mentor Program - Parents build leadership skill by getting involved in school and community activities.
Support for Teachers: Parent Mentors provide teachers with extra eyes, ears, and hand in the classroom. Parent Mentors can also connect the community to the classroom by drawing on the strength of neighborhood families.
Support for Students: Parent Mentors can give extra attention to students, often in their native language, both in terms of academics and social-emotional development.
Parent mentors, united as a group, lead the way to create positive change in their school and community.

Where Can I Go For Help?
While we work to ensure that your student's experience in Plano CUSD #88 is full of exceptional learning experiences, we know that there may be times when a parent or guardian need support. As a result, I want to share with our families where you can get your questions answered and work in partnership with our staff and leadership to do so.
First Step in Parent - School Communication
Your student's teacher is always the best place to start for any issue that is coming up in the classroom. Your student's teachers work directly with your student each day and become very familiar with their needs academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
Second Step in Parent - School Communication
The second line of communication may be your student's dean or assistant principal. Administrators typically support matters related to academics or behavior. When in doubt, the dean or assistant principal can quickly support a parent in getting to the right place. In the event that you are seeking support with social or emotional matters, a school counselor or social worker may be the right place to seek support.

PHS: Mrs. Jessica Johnson, jessicajohnson@plano88.org (Assistant Principal)
PHS: Mr. Nate Hill, nhill@plano88.org (Athletics and Activities)
Third Step in Parent - School Communication
At the third step, a parent may need to address a concern with a principal. Our principals work with all building staff and are a great resource when a matter has reached an elevated level and there is a need for additional perspective or resolution that has not occurred at step one or two.
- P.H. Miller: Mr. Ethan Buege, ebuege@plano88.org, Principal
- Centennial: Dr. Leslie Kressin, lkressin@plano88.org, Principal
- EGJ: Mr. Nate Campbell, natecampbell@plano88.org, Principal
- PMS: Mr. Brian Davis, bdavis@plano88.org, Principal
- PHS: Mr. Mark Heller, mheller@plano88.org, Principal
Fourth Step in Parent - School Communication
Our goal is to always resolve issues at the building level. If at any time the building team or parent feel that communication has been exhausted and support from administration at the district level is needed to move forward, a parent or administrator may reach out to a district-level administrator for additional discussion and solutions to ensure all parties are able to move forward together for the betterment of the student. At level four the matters should be addressed to the district administrator by their assigned roles.
Matters Related to Academics Affairs
- Preschool - 6th Grade: Mrs. Faith Skinner, fskinner@plano88.org
- Middle - High School: Mrs. Meghan Kerr, mkerr@plano88.org
Our directors work with our building principals and other administrators directly, on a daily basis. They are the first step in seeking support for all things learning.
Matters Related to Student Management
- Executive Director: Mrs. Abby Alvarez, aalvarez@plano88.org
Mrs. Alvarez wears many hats and largely oversees student management matters and serves as our lead administrator for registration and residency. Mrs. Alvarez has a strong background in English Language Learning and serves as the administrator for our Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee.
Fifth Step in Parent - School Communication
- Chief School Business Official: Mr. Luke Baughman, baughman@plano88.org
Mr. Luke Baughman serves as the second in command to the Superintendent. Mr. Baughman supervises transportation, food service, technology, and facilities among many other areas.
Sixth Step in Parent - School Communication
As Superintendent of Plano CUSD #88, I want to express that my and our goal is to work in partnership with our parents and community to effectively address any matter that comes to our attention. Please know that we are only a phone call away.
- Dr. Tracy Thurwanger, tthurwanger@plano88.org
The best way to resolve an issue is to use the steps of communication listed above.
Final Step in Parent - School Communication
Parents are welcome to attend monthly Board of Education meetings. Our Board of Education website can be found here. Board of Education meetings are an excellent way to hear about the amazing things happening in our district including student celebrations, learning efforts, fiscal health, and programming.
If a matter arises that needs support, I ask that you reach out to a district leader. You are always welcome to address the Board in person or in an email. It is important to note that the Board of Education can not make public comment on matters related to an individuals, students, staff, or groups.

National School Lunch Program/Application for Free or Reduced Fees
Plano Community Unit School District No. 88 is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program. Under CEP all students will receive a breakfast/lunch at no charge for the entire school year, with the exception of half-day preschool students, whose schedule includes either breakfast or lunch. However, to determine eligibility for your child(ren) to receive additional benefits, including waived or reduced registration fees, you will need to complete a household income form.
Click here to access the link to complete the household income form for the 2025-26 school year: http://plano88.nlappscloud.com The process is very safe and secure. In order to fill out the form, you will need the names of every member in your household, the grade/school’s name for all students, and the annual household income. For annual household income, be sure to list the total gross income, not the take-home pay. Gross income is the amount earned before taxes and other deductions.
